Hello! My name is Edgar, and my family (wife and 2 kids) and I will be relocating to STT in a matter of weeks. I visited last year, and haven't stopped thinking about it since. We've simplified our life, the house is on the market here in Kansas City, and with any good fortune will sell in a matter of a few short weeks. I'll be coming down, I hope, by the end of the month to prepare for the family's arrival.

I wanted all of you 'board members' to know I have greatly appreciated this message board, and while I have only been a 'lurker' until now, I look forward to getting to know some of you personally after we relocate.

I know I will have many questions, and look forward to receiving everyone's gracious and kind feedback!

Regards,
Edgar

Hi Edgar,
What part of Kansas City are you from. We are moving to STJ later in the year. We too are from Kansas City, put our house on the market, and it sold in 8 days !!!! we are in the middle of packing 🙁 We close on April 20th and are moving in with my inlaws as everything happened alittle quickly (to say the least) until we are ready to move. Good luck with the sale of your house, and maybe we can stay in touch and share info on shipping etc.

Greetings Piaa,

Wonderful!!! Sounds like the islands are calling you, and a good real estate market in KC is helping you get there!

We live in Parkville, just north of the river. I just listed our house last week, after I completed building out our basement. I still have a few odds and ends to finish, but should be done in a week or so. I have a seriously interested buyer already, but they need to sell their house first, so I'm not sure they will get it.

STJ is so beautiful! I will be working on STT, and will do business on all the islands (I'm in the mortgage business), so, who knows, we may easily cross paths.

We are taking the approach of selling everything here, and buying what we need on island, except a car we may bring over. I'll be happy to share my experiences with you and stay in touch. Send me a private message with your email, and I'll keep it on file. Maybe we can shat over a cup of coffee before I leave.

Edgar and piaa,

What is it about the muddy Mo? Linda and I are also Kansas Citians with plans to relocate by June 1 to STX. We are going down next weekend to look for a place to live. I used to work in Parkville, while Linda has worked at KCI for the past 18 years. We are very excited to get down to the island and set up camp. We are selling most everything for a new lifestyle. I too, have been lurking on the message board for months and have enjoyed and appreciated the information and encouragement from others who have made the jump. Linda (travelwoman) has been on the boards for a while getting good feedback to her questions. I only hope our house sells as quickly as piaa's has.

good luck to you all; keep in touch and we'll find a way to get together sometime.

Mike

Hey Mike,
I have read 'Travelwoman's" comments often. Nice to know you're my neighbor. I liked STX more than STT when I visited, but I have to make a living, and STT is where I'll be. Check out the Fort Christian Brew Pub on the Boardwalk and Kings Alley. There is a bartender there (I can't remember his name) who does the summer season at Lake of the Ozarks and the rest of the year in STX.

Is Linda a TWA/American employee? There are tons of retirees in this area.

Parkville, is a great place to live, but there is a serious lack of ethnic diversity north of the river. Supposedly the mafia kept anyone of any color from moving north and it is most recently that this is changing. I hope my home sells quickly as well... for the price I need too!

Send me your email as well.
Regards,
Edgar

Hey Mike,

Soon there wont be a person left in Kansas City - not if they are sane anyway - as a move to the islands is what everyone should be doing. Send us a private message and we'll all have to have a KC get together before we leave. Looking forward to hearing from you.

ps any other KC lurkers out there 🙂 ??
pps Edgar did you get our private message ??

Yes, got your PM and replied. We'll have to have some Starbucks before we leave, although they are planning to open one somewhere in the islands soon. I guess I'll have to try some of the island varieties of coffee too. I may like them better! I have a flexible schedule, so let me when would be a good time.

Hello Edgar,

How wonderful (tu). I am excited to read that you all were able to network here on the board and get together to discuss the move. The first Kansas City get together. 🙂 Board users have get togethers from time to time on island with residents, visitors, new residents; I believe this was the first pre-move get together with folks still in the states. Again all the best with your plans.

Hey!!! I have been so busy moving from the south side of the island to the North that I have missed out on a lot of posts. I have been posting here for about 9 months. I too am a former Kansas Citian and can't believe how many K.C. people I have run into. I just met a couple from Shawnee, KS at the laundry mat today. Their son goes to K.U. and they felt he was old enough to leave and pursue their dream of moving to the V.I.

So you all have had enough of the ice, snow, cold weather? You will appreciate the wonderful winters here on island. Since you understand how to deal with tornado season, you will be able to translate that into hurricane season. At least you get a day or more warning of hurricanes.

I have friends in Parkville, MO. It is a nice place to live. I mentioned in another post that I miss Wal-mart, but I also miss Sonic, Chili's, Applebee's, okay maybe I am just hungry. I also miss the Chiefs since I don't get many of the games here. Although last season, I want to forget anyway. I miss Kansas City, but mainly I just miss my family and friends. I can't believe we had a get together in K.C. and I missed it! 🙂 You all will have to come to a get together here on island. Most likely at an open air restaurant - you know, kind of like the patio at the Cheesecake Factory on the plaza during the few months of the year that anyone can stand dining outdoors! 🙂 You have to be from the North to really appreciate open air restaurants. We only saw them in commercials back in K.C.

I can't wait to read your posts about your moving experience and what you think of living here on island. I am on STT, but really need to visit STX. Pamela, are you out there? We still on for a visit to STX? 🙂

Greetings Teresa!
We had a nice visit over a cup of Starbucks. It has a hotspot, so we could have had you there via a webcam! Send me a note to my PM and give me your email address and we'll definately meet up. I should be down in abot 2-3 weeks with my family to follow after I get settled in. Fortunately, I have a friend who is a local, and I'll rent a room until I find a place. I'll be near Tutu Mall.

I'm planning on bringing a Toyota Corolla. I'll drive to the port, I think Ft Lauderdale, and fly from Miami. I have to do more research about the tranport company and such, but it is in good shape, and my island friends all suggest to bring it.

The tornado a couple of years ago missed us by about 1 mile. I was on the broadway bridge going north when we clearly saw 2 tornadoes crossing the river heading toward Liberty from Parkville. It was amazing!

The Sonic in Parkville, is now surrounded by a new shopping Mall. Apple Market sold and the National Golf course developers built a new shopping village. Of course, Zona Rosa is now open...Plaza North! And Tuileries Plaza, a high end center is being built west of Hen House. The growth is crazy here... almost like Johnson County.

How long have you been in STT? I'll have to look up some old posts.
Stay in touch.

Regards,
Edgar

Edgar,

If that tornado you are talking about was two years ago, I was chasing it with a friend of mine from the Pleasant Hill - National Weather Service. There were three total in the one storm. We saw the one south of K.C. The two north of K.C. did the most damage. It was incredible and scary.

My husband moved to STT last year in May and the rest of us moved in August of last year. Seems like years ago rather than just one year. It is good that you know people here already. Co-workers of my husband helped make our transition easier. I might have given up and moved back to the States if it weren't for them and people I have met thru this board.

Parkville sounds like it is growing like Lee's Summit. It is strange, I want to visit, but I don't want to visit for fear that it would feel awkward. It isn't home anymore and I still feel a little displaced. I hope to visit this year sometime anyway. Have they started building the Sprint stadium and has there been anymore talk of it being home to a hockey team? Okay, enough of K.C. I am sure you are seeing only the beautiful ocean and island calling you.

Hello Teresa,
Yes, Parkville is booming. Not the quiet twon close to everything anymore. Platte County is going to be another Johnson County as far a growth. I know the stadium is approved, but I haven't followed as far as construction goes. Still talk of hockey, but I havn't followed that either. Sorry!

The people I've met on island have all been friendly and very hospitable. No doubt there will be adjustments, but I believe we will fare well.

I'm tying up some lose ends to jump down in a couple of weeks. My family will follow after the house sells.

Stay in touch!
Edgar
