It is seriously the end of an era...Grassy Point is being turned into a home spot. I hear it'll be a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom place. That place holds so many memories for me and friends who grew up here. i had my senior class photo taken there (all 20 of us, lol). it's such a beautiful, original, unique spot...and it's being turned into another house with an ocean view. the over-development of st. croix makes me sad for what this island is going to become in the future years.

I passed Grassy Point last week and was freaked out when I saw the house under construction. It doesn't seem right. My son and I have surfed there for years. The owner put a a sign calling it Elizebeths Point but it never lasts long. Another treasure gone.

Grassy Point was for sale for years before Warren bought it. The government or a private organization could have easily purchased it. Grassy Point would have been cheaper than those Act 6905 raises.

Well said Rotorhead; everyone cries after the fact. Just like the new building going up on the east end, all the residents in the area were asked to buy it and no one wanted to even thought they knew it was zoned commercial.

it's this little peninsula off the coast of St. Croix - if you're heading towards Divi from Christiansted on South Shore, it's on the right hand side.

If it was private land and for sale I don't understand why everyone is surprised.

Not suprised......everything seems to be for sale for the right price. its just a landmark. tourist loved to go there and take pics.
Houses can be built anywhere with no trouble but try to build a nice hotel to bring in jobs and all heck breaks loose.

This reminds me of the people in Scottsdale. They will build their home between the existing homes and the mountains, and that is alright. But let someone build in front of them and it seems like the world has come to an end. They complain to the city ( the department where my wife is the supervisor ), and want the building taken down or construction stopped.

Is the house or complex where you live blocking someone's view? Does it have a nice view? Can it be seen from the road or from the sea?
Would the land or hillside where you place is look better if there were no houses there?

Here in Az, the park service is buying many of the mountain sides to keep people from building. Personally I like to see a few nice ( expensive ) homes up on the hills. Then all of our farm land has been turned into housing projects and shopping centers. Our great great grand children will have to learn to eat rocks as there will be no place to grow food.

If it is private land, it could have been purchased by someone who would like to see it remain empty and donated to the park service.

The point was for sale.....for a mere $14 million............so I guess it is privately owned.
The owners do have a right to do what ever they want , such as build a home once they get all permits and such.
It's just hard to imagine it being a private estate. I have many fond memories and pictures............from my both tourist days and resident days. We used rocks and coral to spell our names..........let our dog run the pebble beach........watch a sun set.........just go there to enjoy the natural beauty when the island's stupidity got too much. It was like a reset button...........
