Dixie - I believe you are thinking of the Comanche. There is no way Grapetree has any rooms ready to rent out. They are in the removal of rusted out debris and putting on wood for roofing phase. It is great to see some work finally starting out there. It's only been in ruins since Hugo back in 1989. Used to be a great place back in the day. There was a rumor when it was bought three or so years ago that it was going to be condo's and not turned back into a hotel. I was just curious if anyone new the current owner's plans since he or she finally seems to be commencing with some repair work.

DroveDErive by there today. They have finished the wood part of a new roof on what I think was the maintainance building and staff rooms. They are about 75% complete with the wood part of the roof on the main hotel next to the water.

FYI... the confusion on the Comanche - the Comanche is actually looking fabulous, has most rooms finished and hosted President Carter and all his family over New Years, so although I haven't seen the rooms myself I have to believe they are pretty nice. I know the bar, pool area, and new Comanche Mill Yacht-Less Club on the boardwalk are all really nice. Power to them - I'm so glad to see some nice renovations actually put to good use on the boardwalk . Now... if they could only get their kitchen operational!

GrapeTree - Nice to hear that they are proceeding with some reconstruction! Wouldn't that be so cool to have that old place restored, even if its just into rental apt. Good news!

This island continues to amaze me. 🙂
