Graduate School
Good Day,
I was wondering if anyone out there knows if you need to take the GRE to get into the graduate school at the university? This might be a silly question, but I have found some many differences in policy between the main land and the island, so I thought I would throw it out.
Thanks....
Contact the Univ there in the Web.
I second Moshtak's suggestion - visit http://www.uvi.edu
Here is a bit of the info I found.
Applicants to the Master's program in Education, Business Administration and Public Administration are required to submit the following to the Admissions Office.
An official transcript must be sent directly from each college or university that you have attended. Submit the college course descriptions of any graduate transfer course you wish to be considered for credit at UVI (6 credits limit)
All applicants for the Business Administration Program are required to take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Contact GMAT about their computer-based testing program at (609) 771-7330 or visit www.gmat.org.
Applicants to the Public Administration Program are required to take the GMAT. The UVI code (0879) should be used so that test scores will be sent directly to the Admissions Office. Test results older than five years are invalid.
All students planning to take graduate courses must have an application pending prior to enrolling in graduate course. Individuals interested in enrolling in graduate classes must submit an application for admission prior to registering for classes. Students who have not received an acceptance to the graduate program will be allowed to register for not more than six credits in the semester that their application is pending. To continue in the program after one semester a student must be admitted.
I had applied for a master's program there and was accepted without having taken the GRE at the time. Things may have changed since I attended.
Your best is to call them and ask. Visit the web site for contacts.

I was going to contact them, however I haven't read any posts that addressed the question, so I thought I would throw it out there with the thought that others could benefit from it. I am sure that if you are required to take the GMAT, you would have to take the GRE for the other graduate programs. The GMAT is a specific test geared for business (similar to the LSAT for Law and MACT for Medicine)....
Anyway, thank you very much for your assistance.
Chad, the program I applied for was in Education and didn't require the GRE that was a while back but not too long ago all the same 🙂 You are right others might benefit from the information... but to them and to you - definately contact the university for specifics on their admissions policies and the transfering of classes taken there back to your home university if you plan on only attending a year or so or at another university if you already took some courses and plan to finish up at UVI. All the best.
