Governor: Violence Could Curtail Carnival
How about actively seeking out the gangs, their members and finding the sources of guns they use.
Bingo!
How about actively seeking out the gangs, their members and finding the sources of guns they use.
Sadly they can't even seem to be able to do that in the states let alone down here. Part of the problem is also the reluctance to give the feds more power to help the VIPD out. The local police are overwhelmed yet when things like the peace officer bill comes up everyone gets in a uproar over granting the feds the ability to assist in non-federal crime. I also wonder what happened to the law that went into effect where gun crimes the perp automatically got a ticket to a federal prison in the states rather than Golden Grove country club, er, correctional facility. What really irks me is all the hoops that someone has to go through to possess a gun legally here. Maybe if the playing field were evened out a bit people would think twice about pulling a gun on someone.
I was glad that I was over on St. Croix this weekend, I had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. It is becoming common place that something ugly rears it's head during Jouvert it's just not reported all the time. A few years ago I saw a stabbing victim being helped by his buddy run towards main street after getting knifed in the crowd. It really is sad that violence seems to mark this event.
Some people feel they are above any reasonable law so they will do what ever they want to do to whom ever they wish. Throwing stuff out of a car, passing anywhere on the road, no driver's insurance, drinking and driving, stealing, drugs you name it. Laws were made for the other person, not for them.
Now the truth. NO AMOUNT OF LEGAL ACTION WILL EVER STOP THESE PEOPLE.
Anything can happen to you at any time and at any place.
Are there more people in the VI like this. Yes there are. The crime rate shows that.
Take the good with the bad. You do not need to like it, and we should all try to change this.
