Government Employee Salaries
For most departments (UVI for sure, and a few others are exempt) are published yearly in the Daily News. They sell lots of papers for that issue.
For most positions, public or private, pay is less than Stateside. And yet, the VI is one of the higher paying islands in the Caribbean. I met someone who commutes to VI from PR because he makes more money here.
Many people supplement their salaries by working another job, renting apartments, living in family property so as not to have to pay rent, using public transportation, having unlicensed cash businesses, etc.
Many people living here make financial sacrifices.
Does anyone recall around what time of year the Daily News publishes those lists of government salaries?
I don't know that it is yearly. I know of twice in the last 10 years or so.
Maybe it isn't yearly. When I googled the most recent was 2013. I know I've seen it more than once, though. It's a big deal when it comes out.
State universities salaries' are provided by the AAUP with the ability to compare and search for various criteria and can be found through this link ..
When you see the comparison with comparable institutions and consider the huge difference between cost of living between the VI and those places it is alarming. If you consider COL, instructors are basically being asked to live on half of what colleagues at other institutions are earning.
I have also seen a listing of individual's salaries from UVI as well but I can't remember where that was.
The link for any open globally published Government Job regardless of which United States location is www.usajobs.gov
