got allergies?
Hi everyone, I wanted to know if anyone with allergies to dust and mold has had a better or worse experience on the island? I am concerned about mold in the dorms at UVI and apartments around town. Has anyone had more allergies develop on the island? Anyone gotten relief on St. Thomas? Any good meds, herbs or natural healing methods? Are some months better than others? I have just developed allergies over the past year and never had anything wrong before. I am finally getting some relief with meds but I dread developing more once I move. I would love to hear from any allergy sufferers and I feel your pain! Thanks
Elise
Recently started taking Zyrtec for allergy which i presume to be to dust as I live by the ocean and the breezes are always a blowin' stuff this way. Surprised as you'd think it would be a pretty clean enviornment - washed and blown by the sea.
Not sure if it's seasonal - it appears to be as it occured when I first arrived last year in October.
Actually Allergies can be age related. If you never had them before people tempt to get them in their 20th. Sorry guys you are getting old lol
I got mine around that time. However, with me it also happen when I got into photography. I am always suspicious that the darkroom chemicals had something to do with it.
I can't talk about the island. But in Florida my trouble where more the trees and flowers than the mold. As long as you do not have wall to wall carpet and run the air condition from time to time mold should not be an issue. Cross circulation should help as well.
I got injections for 5 years as my allergies where really bad. My eyes where always watery and post nasal drips where driving me up the wall. The shuts really made a difference. I am off them now. I still have allergies but they are not nearly as bad as they use to be.
There is a somewhat higher incidence of mold infestation in the Virgin Islands. This is usually true of areas near the water. Grass and tree pollen allergies are somewhat less pravalent than areas on the mainland.
My husband's allergies actually got better here than in the States. It probably depends on what your allergy is related too.
Just my little post.
