Google Maps - STX
Good Evening Everyone,
I wanted to give fellow Crucians/St. Croix islanders a head's up that I am adding businesses to Google maps, and I'm also seeking feedback on what others would like to see prioritized in what is added. I am also drawing estate boundaries and adding plot numbers at pinpoint locations as I am able to, but my primary focus is businesses. Finally, I am fixing road drawings and adding hiking trails where there are trails.
I am doing this because I want to give back to the community. Mainlanders have the benefit of finding places on Google Maps, and I think St. Croix should have it, too. This will be one more way to connect people with businesses, especially small businesses.
That being said, if there are any places on St. Croix you don't see on Google Maps but think it would be helpful to have on there sooner rather than later, feel free to comment here and I will prioritize your suggestions. If you are a business-owner and don't see your business on Google Maps, then by all means, please comment.
In the meantime, I am methodically going down the major roads and adding each business I come across, including address, contact details, website (if there is one), and hours. For example, last weekend I added businesses on the north side of Christiansted, between Pepper Tree Rd/Northside all the way to 5 corners.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Best,
Chris
P.S. - I am adding the tree with the face over by Sunny Isle as a point of interest. Who could miss the tree with the face?!
Beaches, dive sites, restaurants are always good to have.
Car rental places... police stations, hospital and medical offices... of course, hotels...
A big THANK YOU from me... What you are doing is very commendable...
especially beaches. people talk about all these beaches. maybe i have been to them but i do not know the names. and i have been here 10 years
Do Google Map upgrades carry over to Google Earth?
I use Google Earth far more often now. I have noticed recently that someone has donated their time and added 3D upgrades to a few building in Christiansted and Frederiksted.
Very Cool!
Good luck, and I mean that in the best sense.
What about doing something similar for STT/STJ?

Tbh, I'm not sure about that. I can add the height of buildings, but I haven't played with that parameter, so I'm treading in uncharted waters. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

At this moment, I am doing STX because I live here and can verify places in person. I do plan on visiting both STT and STJ sometime in the next several months; I might just schedule some time to work on those islands. Thank you for planting that seed. =)

I will certainly add all the beaches I can identify. I already found some not previously in there, such as the popular-on-Sunday Rainbow Beach which I added just last night.

Ok, I've added most of the car rental places. I'm thinking for a bit about Judi of Croix since I didn't think they had a window at the airport. The hospital is already on the map, although not all of the medical offices are (working on it). Same goes for hotels. I just added all of the police stations.
thank you
Thanks dood, very cool.
I'm down with the hiking trails. I hope some of the cool secret stuff like the waterfalls up C Gut and the lighthouse or the private beaches past the TPs aren't added.
That could hurt some local businesses who take guided tours to them.
I'm with Jamison. One of the things I first loved about St Croix is that the "attractions" are not spoon fed to tourists. You have to actually meet and talk to people to find information and make wrong turns and discover the island for yourself.
However, the business locations will be super handy. Thank you for using your time and talents to help us all!
