For those of you who have an address back in the states, google it then click on your address. Wicked.
I put in an old address of mine & nothing much happened. I'll be interested to see what others say.
Enter the entire address into the Google Searchbar? Or just part of it? I tried with my old address and I got nothing relating to it...
Pretty cool.
A couple of years ago, my husband was visiting his brother in Carbondale, IL. He went out to do his usual walk/run and got a little turn around in the neighborhood. I happed to call his cell phone while he was "lost". I pulled up GoogleEarth and guided him back to his brother's. Way Cool!
Marty,
I put the entire address, without the zip code.
dougtamjj: Are you talking about Google Earth or just the Google search bar???
Does anyone know if this is real time?
It is not real time. To prove it to yourself, google the same address this evening.
Google even has a street view for certain parts of the US... crazy.
Ahhh! Google Earth! It makes more sense to me now!
Sorry guys. I turned off my computer right after that post. I just clicked my internet connection. Google popped up. I typed in my stateside address, when it came up I clicked on the address. A picture popped up and I clicked on that and there was a street view of my house. You can use the arrows to go up and down the street. It wasn't taken very long ago as the rental car that I used on my last visit was parked in the driveway.
Now that is just wierd.!!! I looked at several former residences. Can't pull up the USVI tho.
Try using www.flashearth.com too. It's like google earth but you don't have to download a program. There are some really clear pictures of the VI.
Any google earth (GE) whiz kids out there? I have a GE question that I've tried to get answered on the GE forum, with no luck (but it's been a while):
- I see GE for STX... and my lot of land
- I can turn on "geography" and see the topographic view
- but, the topo is way off because it's only sampled every about 30m
- so, ie there is a hill to my SW that GE shows being slightly lower than my lot, when in reality it is 80 ft above me!
- I have a topo survey of my land that I can convert to kml using Google SketchUp
- but, if I import that kml topo into GE, GE just draws it on top of the GE map.
- I would like to find a way to make GE use my topo info to render the GE imagery (ie make my lot more correct from a topographic viewpoint)
- so, anyone know how to replace GE's altitude data, sampled on a 30m grid with my topo data that is sampled about every 1m?
The pics are from Google earth, but the pics come up by entering the address in the Google search bar. No downloads required. I do remember a while back seeing something on 60 minutes or some such show, Google employed vehicles to literally drive up and down every street with camera equipment to photograph the entire country. They had panaromic cameras mounted on vans which took 306 degree photos.....pretty cool.
The picture of my house and street was taken a little over a year ago....
We found my house on google earth a while back...6mo.'s + ago ?? Now I know what's behind all that casia bush up the hill! I'll try it again.:-o
