Good Experience at the DMV
Pulled into the parking lot at about 1:15 today. Pulled out with new tags at 2 pm. I've been here 7 years and I have to say the improvement in this office over the past 2 years is amazing. Kudos to whoever!!!
i have always had a good experience at the dmv, even when i went to change over my drivers license. one time i even got a goody bag filled with stuff.
My first time to the BMV I thought I'd have a heart attack when I saw all the windows and lines. However, had my drivers license, vehicle inspection, and plates in about 45 minutes. It's a messy manual process going on behind those windows but it seems to work.
I have no doubt they could streamline their processes manually or with automation and cut out all the hand-offs and re-keying of information but that would mean cutting government jobs and no politician here would ever advocate such a thing since the government workers are the largest voting block!
I had a similar experience as Linda in March. When I renewed my registration, I was in and out in about an hour. Really different from last year, when I had to register it for the first time. Took a few hours.

One of our neighbors was in and out in no time last week, and she even wore a sleeveless top (don't try this), with no problems. On top of that, she had a bad light....no problem and something else that was minor...no problem. It's all in the luck of the draw. I agree though, it has gotten much better.
Juanita: Please explain what was the problem with "wearing a sleeveless top (don't try this)" ??? thanks.

I was in and out with auto inspection and registration renewal in about 25 minutes two weeks ago. I was afraid it would take forever, as it was a Monday at the end of the month (we'd been off-island), but I was pleasantly surprised
There is a pretty strict dress code for having you photo taken, no tanks, low cut blouses, etc. The camera operator can and will refuse to take your picture if she feels you are inappropriately dressed.
Their sign also says you can't wear "short pants" (a.k.a. "shorts" ) . I did, and nobody said anything.
