Good Experience at Juan Luis Hospital ER
While we were on St. Croix a week or so ago, I had a medical emergency in the middle of the night. By early morning I was pretty sure I needed medical attention. Thanks to the great folks at the Buccaneer, I was taken to the ER at Juan Luis hospital around 7:30 am. To our amazement, there was no one waiting in the ER for treatment. Within 10 minutes I was seen by a board-certified emergency medicine MD, Dr. Fred Wakil. He was impressive with his diagnosis and treatment of my condition. Also seemed like a good fellow (wanted to talk UK basketball). The nurse who assisted him was also very nice. A contract nurse from New York City, she seemed very competent and caring. Although the physical plant is not impressive and the lack of equipment obvious, the care I received from these individuals was the equal of what I could have expected here in the states. Follow-up with my local urologist when I returned home to Kentucky was a confirmation that I had received the appropriate and correct care at the St. Croix hospital. Even more amazing was that they accepted my Humana insurance coverage!
I have read about the horror stories of the Juan Luis hospital, so I thought at least one positive story ought to be told.
For non-Kentuckians, UK refers to the University of Kentucky and not the United Kingdom! Glad you're ok Steve.
Well, I was wondering if there were Welsh and Scottish people on that team...LOL
I hope you send your letter to the folks at JFL. There is a tendency on this board- and with people you meet in the community- to denigrate the hospitals. It is good to hear the other side of the story. And I hope you are doing well, too!!
(tu) nice....great to hear a positive experience. Folks always quick to speak about the negative, but would stay quiet about the positive.
Letter to JFL sent.
there have been a few threads to post positive experiences on here and they have gone by the wayside.
