Golden Resorts/Robin Bay/Seven Hills... What is the latest
Ran across this article from a year ago... looks like a big sue fest and no one is building anything... Anyone know the current status of the development, or lack of it? How big is the property anyhow, from where, to where?
He's now trying to get the V.I. govt to "finance" the project. And they may just be stupid enough to finance it.
Holy Moly! How big is the property? Where does it begin and end?
The 300 acre property is located on the western edge of Salt Pond, just east of the Boy Scout camp. It extends to the beach at Great Pond on the southshore of StX.
This is a guess, but the "govt financing" might be in the form of a loan from the Govt retirement fund which by law is required to invest part of its fund in island projects. GERS recently invested in Carambola, for example.
Personally, I hope the permits and financing continue to expire and get turned down for this particular project. Building a huge resort on the edge of a unique and undeveloped nature preserve doesn't seem like a good location --given that others are available.
((And no, Ms Information, I don't have an iron in this fire either! 😎 I do, however, frequently kayak Great Pond. It's an important turtle nesting area and migratory bird stop over. Would like to see them turn it into a nature preserve, clean it up, put in walking trails, add a small boat launch, etc.))
Man, it seems INSANE to develop such a prominent wetland habitat. I wonder if it could make money as a privately held park, similar to a national park..
I had been looking at real estate earlier. Is this lot, MLS # 10-289 right in the middle of it? Might be I have my bearings mixed up.
The property you are looking at is almost a mile east of the proposed Golden resort.
There is a lot of insanity in the islands.....hence people supporting building a resort downwind of a smelly bug filled swamp, with no beach, and quicksand on the golf course.....makes perfect sense!
