Go for it, Dave!! 🙂

SCUBA instructors (PADI certified) should be able to find work. Check with Hal at Cane Bay Dive Shop (340-773-9913), he may have some leads.

Im right with ya! Im also a contractor here in NJ and am very skeptial about pulling off a living on St Thomas but still even after everyone is convincing me that im crazy, i cant get it off my mind! We plan to move as soon as our house sells this summer, I have a 32' boat here that i may or may not sell, to buy another when we arrive, (or just have it shipped there). But we are deff scared, im leaving my own busisnss behing after 16 good years, and a 100k+ income! for the "unknown". I plan to start the buiss down there or go into some kind of charter/fishing/diving & snorkeling enterprize with my boat and knowledge of boating.....(im sure another dime o dozen idea), but as long as i can pay my bills down there i wont complain...

My wife is a bartender and im sure she could find work somewhere, just seems to me that here in NJ its all about the "quanity" of life, when to us its more about the "quality"!

Good luck
Matty

If I can quote Rob Schnieder's character from The Waterboy: "Yeww can dew iiiit!"
This forum is very good at giving savvy advice and answering questions.
Try going to www.virginislandsdailynews.com and check out the employment section for a sampling of what they are looking for there. It changes fairly quickly.
Good Luck with your ideas, maybe we will cross paths there in the future. I've lived there, and now want to return. Bob C.

STX has a serious need for contractors and land developers. If you build it, I will sell it! 😉
And others from this message board will be happy to buy it. There is a lot of opportunity here in the real estate and construction business for professionals with experience (and patience). Before you try to develop an entirely new business you haven't run before, take a look at the opportunities to continue doing what you know how to do well, assuming you enjoy the industry.

Dave - the licensing laws and requirements depend up on the type of license you are trying to get. The more complex the license, the more that is required. For most government business licenses, you have to be living on the island at least 30 days before you can apply... but you also need to order a tax clearance certificate and include it with your application and that will usually take you a month or more to receive, anyway. The applications ask for all the usual information you would expect. They might also ask for a few odd items. Take it in stride and do what is asked without raising too much of a stink and you might speed up the process.

If you want to email me privately with more precise info about what type of license you would be seeking, I might be able to collect an application packet to mail to you. stcroixhomes@hotmail.com

I don't handle many short-term rentals, but sometimes do have something available. Of course I'd be happy to show you around the island so you can see properties available and start to find your niche. Stay in touch.

Alexandra

Cheese and bread! You have a caps lock button for a reason. Use it!

Typing that is all capitalized is very hard to read since the text lacks the normal visual breaks that allow for rapid identification and scanning of patterns that facilitates quick comprehension. That's why you shouldn't type in all caps. If someone asks you to take off the caps lock it's probably so that he/she can more easily read your messages.

Also, typing in all caps portrays the writer as uncaring-- too busy to bother to hit the shift button now and then.

I'm not flaming you, just explaining why typing in all caps is uncool.

Hey Dave, one of the protocols of "Netiquette" is that if you type in caps it means that you are shouting 🙂

WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT US???

LOL !!
