Anyone know if they are in need of any teachers? We are wanting to relocate our family to STJ.

This is my daughter's second year there. No violence. Students for the most part work hard and want to do well in school - attitude is good. I like the school.

Good teachers are hard to come by in STJ and I believe GHS is always looking for good teachers. I'm sure if you called them they may have a place for you in september. What do you teach?

It is actually for my husband. He has his degree in Psychology, but wants to get into elementary education, where his heart is. At a time, he was a stay at home day even. He comes from a long line of teachers... his grandfather and father are retired principals, sister is in Spec. Ed, and another teaches gifted.
We have seriously talked about making the move down for nearly 5 years. We have 2 children, 3 and 6 and wouldn't make the move if they couldn't attend there. We've read the teacher bios on their website and didn't know what their education requirements were. Also, didn't know if someone might know what the going rate for a teacher is at that particular school...I realize teachers are underpaid and probably more so on island. I am familiar with public school teacher salaries, but not so much private.

The school is on break this week - but call them. I'm sure they can answer all your questions.

Gifft Hill has many good teachers. Many are young, little experience and not strong educational backgrounds but they are enthusiastic. There are a a couple of very strong teachers. Check out the bios on their web sight. They do not pay well so there is a lot of turnover. Hopefully they won't lose some of their good teachers this year! The principal of the lower campus is wonderful. If you want a job- you need to be on island. You have to show up on their doorstep before they take you seriously. Good luck.

wonder what the pays like cause over its not that great either, they trying to bring something in which teachers make more based on students performance. I do think teachers salaries deserves an increase.

I believe pay at Gifft Hill is $30,000.00 No benefits. Doesn't matter experience. All paid about same. They tend to have kids right out of college who teach a couple of years. They can't afford to live here so when they are done with their adventure they return to the states.
