Getting to Puerto Rico from the Islands
What are the options and associated costs for getting to PR and back from St Thomas either for a weekend or day? I searched expedia and came up with a round trip flight for around $230. Is the cheapest/best option?
I don't mean this is a critical way at all but do you ever do a search to look for your answers? All the answers are here on this board and if you are really interested in making the move here you should at least be willing to read all or most of the way back through the threads. You will come up with answers to questions you didnt know to ask about island living. It should be something you're willing to invest your time doing if you are really serious about coming here. The information on this board is better than any other relocation source.
Flying to PR is the best option. $230 is not the cheapest flight price.
David,
Check out the seaplane. http://www.seaborneairlines.com
It's the ONLY way to go, if you are just going to San Juan, in my opinion. It's downtown to downtown. If you are connecting to another flight, the seaplane isn't much help, since you fly into downtown Old San Juan and not at the airport.
Thank you Juanita - I was wondering the same myself.
Betty it's not that we are not willing to do the research (David has apparently done a ton of it). It's that there is so much information on this site thanks to wonderful people like you and Juanita and sometimes info gets missed or is an older post and we want to make sure that it is the most up-to-date resource, i.e. travel pricing.
David- Thank you very much for all the research and questions that you have posted here on this blog. My husband and I are beginning to research a move for next year and your Q's have mirrored so many of my own and I was impressed with all your info for "Cali Girl". You have even inspired me to look into UVI to finish up my teaching degree when I get down there. So thank you very very much!
Oh and if you find a "quick-cheap" way to get to PR let me know, because I really want to do some looking around when we come down in Oct.
Best wishes on all of your travels!
Thanks Robin. Glad you are finding what you are looking for! 😀
And Betty, I do always search before I ask a question - thoroughly. I didn't turn anything up concerning this topic. And sometimes getting information from multiple sources is the better than settling with a link found in Google.
In the future maybe you could do 1 of 2 things: PM me or a mod your concerns or just participate in the thread in a productive manner. Derailing threads with this nonsense does nothing to help myself or future visitors.

The more specific information cataloged here the easier it will be for future visitors to find what they are looking for.
David,
Not talking about googling. Many newcomers miss the search feature on this forum and it can be a very handy place to start. Making sure you guys know about it. I personnally would set a goal of reading 5 to ten pages of threads a day so you can really absorb the info and get a broader sense of what life is like here. Best of luck.
David,
A lot of that info is outdated. The ONLY way to get from St. Thomas to San Juan is seaplane, Cape Air, or American Eagle. All are in the range of $200-250.
Don't trust any of the above info, David. Lots outdated or just plain wrong! I would also suggest, it's not a good idea to trust what you hear on this forum as totally true. Not due to any malicious intent, but things change. I haven't seen the STT-STX ferry in days...and days! It's that time of year, so things cut back. Even in season, they change. So, always a good idea to call the service provider direct for schedule info. And THEN reconfirm it! And THEN be prepared for it to be wrong.
Yes, reading threads daily has totally helped me understand how things work in USVI. Bottom line is don't wait till last minute to get what you need. Info, advice, details, etc. Multiple sources - here and elsewhere will provide best options. Example - I did not know that the ferry to PR might be a random opportunity. I assumed it went as scheduled. That's a tip I'll remember.
I have read about the fist ten pages of threads in the relocating forum as well as about 5 pages of the classifieds forum. I use the search on any forum before making a post. Sorry about posting outdated information, but I'm glad I got some corrected info.
