Getting Closer

I am getting closer to making this thing a reality. I have a possibilty at one of the finer hotels, and am beginning to wonder more specifically.

1. If I work on St Thomas, is it feasible to commute from STX?

2. Do many parents home school their children? Does anyone who posts here? Are there any resources on the islands for parents who homeschool?

3. I know that we do not want to buy anything right away, but I am wondering if anyone on island with children (mine are 6 and 8) has a recommendation for good, safe places to live.

Thanks in advance,
John

I don't know about kids or safe places to live on STT, but it is NOT practical to commute every day from STT to STX.

Hello John,

1. Yes its possiable to commute between St. Thomas and St. Croix; meaning there is daily regular transportation between the two islands. It is however not practical and it is not cheap; $60-$120 a day would be your bill (ferry runs only half the year and the sea-plane runs all year round)

2. There are some people who home school yes. You might contact Robin and Jergen Bitterwolf at (340)777-7731 they run a home school program where some kids attend 5 days a week and others are home schooled by parents a few days a week and then home schooled with the group the other days in order to have the children learn socialization skills by being around other children. The main location is on Water Island (an easy commute from St. Thomas) and there are St. Thomas children that attend.

3. The layout on the islands make naming off 'good' neighoborhoods difficult. We call off locations by area and some areas have both good and bad within. To just give you an idea of where you might start looking on St. Thomas - Northside covers many areas but all are nice for the most part, quiet, mostly residential.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the info. Commuting is certainly out. I am in the interview process right now, but it looks good. I was planning to move there in October or November, but a job offer would make things a lot easier.

My kids are my biggest concern, so I need to figure that out.

Again, thanks for the info.

John

Hello John,

Saw an article today about that home school orgnaization I mentioned - check it out:

http://tnew.onepaper.com/stthomasvi/?v=d&i=&s=News:Local&p=1075613537

You might want to check out the schools section of this web site - there are links to the schools that have web sites and some basic info about them. There are folks that use this message board that have school aged children in the USVI so certainly think of the questions you have and ask.
