Gettin ready to make the big move!!
Well we have been talking a lot about what we should do, when should we go, where should we stay, etc...Our thinkin at this point is for me to make the move first to get myself accustomed to the island life;) He will come with me for the first couple weeks to help me make the transaction, get things fixed up in my room, find a vehicle, and for a little moral support;) I know one of the first things I must do is to get a food handlers card, and get used to driving on the left;) I will definitely be looking into working in the food industry, I will be on Island by mid April 2012, if anyone has any info on job opportunities, or feedback regarding my situation please feel free to speak up, I will take all the advice and info I can get. Good Day!!!
which island are you moving too?
And why are you choosing to come at the end of the busy season?
St. Croix
@visnorkeler I do plan on living on the island full time, so I figure if I can make it in the off season...the better for me.
Welcome! Just be ready to work your butt off finding a job in the off-season. It's tough, but can be done if you're persistent.
@NugBlazer. Thanks so much for the welcome! I am about as persistant as they come;-) But none the less have been preparing myself physically and mentally. I am a hard worker and confident that all will work out. But please...if anyone knows of anyone who would be interested, I am a jack of all trades. I have worked in the restaurant business, dietay aide, hotels, and am currently working for a cleaning company, cleaning private residences. Thanks:-)
I guess I don't understand why you would want to make it that much harder on yourself, that's all. I moved to STT in late October with enough time to get a vehicle and a place to live before the season started. I found a job right away. The job, reliable car, and year lease made the "off season" a whole lot easier. Why would a person deliberately handicap themselves by knowingly arriving at the worst possible time to find a job is beyond my comprehension. Good luck!!
No apologies nessesary Visnorkeler. I don't think anyone can scare me more than myself;) I have thought of all senarios... and believe it or not traveling to a new place to build your dream home is pretty scary. But I have my wits about me, and am a very determined young woman;-) Newbies thankyou so much for the support...I suppose I'll be needing a lot of that:-D I will do mostly anything although I am more expierenced in the restaurant/food service industry. I clean private residences for work now, I want to also look into the new Home Depot on St. Croix, I have worked as a Dietary Aide in nursing homes, and am willing to do whatever it takes. I am a quick learner and love working with the public. And I do already have a place to stay with some money to get me through the off season, so that just leaves the car! What do I have to lose? Good Day:-)
I'll be there in 13 days too!
