generic foods
I have gone over the cost of groceries on st croix..compared to the sates...do the stores sell generic or is everything name brand...our kmarts here sell alot of food items..is it also the same in stx..just trying to gather as much info as we can before we decide to move or not...right now the only thing that freaks me out is the whold cisten thing...that is really confusing..thanks for you help
Everything may be name brand, just not one you're familiar with! If you're asking if there is generic chicken soup, I don't believe I've seen it. Kmart does have food items - no frozen or refrigerated, but they do have some stuff.
The cistern thing had me a little on the freaky side, too...but there's nothing to freak about. Actually, it's a wonderful idea that needs to be more heavily implemented on the mainland as well..It's fresher and purer, without all of the added stuff - you will be pleasantly surprised. You know you've changed your mindset when you no longer just hear rain, but feel that deep satisfaction that comes with knowing there is water pouring in just for you! You do have to keep the gutters in good repair or you develop leaks - you don't turn the water on and leave it running while you wander around the kitchen - we live mid island and have a total of 50,000 in two cisterns, one large and one small. Even during the dry run we had just a little while ago, we got enough rain that we weren't ever seriously concerned even though the smaller one was empty. Much will depend on how many people are in your household and the size of your cistern - and where on the island you live. The east end is much dryer...surprising how it all changes in such a short geographical distance.
Tanya, there will be enough to freak you out while moving - don't worry about the cistern! It's the least of your concerns....
