What about St. Croix? I thought it would be cheaper seeing that there is a huge refinery there??

Up up up up we go........too bad nobody heeds the recommendations of the panel that spent time examining the gas prices and does anything to resolve the issue. We COULD actually have lower gas prices here.

I paid $1.99/gallon for regular yesterday afternoon on STX, which is the same as it has been for a month or so at this particular gas station. There are several other stations that have gas for $1.95/gallon, or at least did earlier this week.

Kelly, You might be interested in knowing that, at least on St. Thomas, there seem to be an increasing number of SUVs driving around with For Sale signs on them. Going on what I've heard from friends of mine who own them, their gas-guzzling capacity is proving a bottomless money pit - and they're also NOT a comfortable drive, particuarly on our lousy roads!

Prices in Roswell are $2.34 with a refinery down the road about 40 miles. Greedy is as greedy gets!

STX has many stations around the $1.90ish area. Someone told me that STT gets it gas from the states???? With HESS right here only 40 miles away, how does that make sense? Maybe they can't make the kickbacks from STX???

Based on inflation we are still paying less for gas than the 70's and 80's as a proportion of income. As for SUV's, I love my gas guzzling SUV and will not sell it unless gas hits $20 per gallon. Mine also drives as smooth as silk and doesent bottom out on our lovely pot holes here on St. Thomas like the little rice burners do.

I paid $1.95 per gallon at Everybody's Gas Station on Northside Rd on STX. He's had that price for several weeks now.

As far as the gas going from STX to STT, I have been told it goes to PR first and the various companies you have over there put their own magic ingredients (read Brand Name) in it and then ship it to STT. All the gas stations on STX use Hess gas straight from the rack.

I heard Senator Basinger (sorry if I'm misspelling it) talking in an address on what his office is doing. One of the main issues he mentioned is to try to get the funded needed to build gasoline storage tanks on St.Thomas, so that the fuel from Hovensa can be off-loaded and available to us here. The issue currently is that the ships that transport the fuel have no storage available in which to put it - or, not big enough storage tanks.

This was one of the main conclusions found by the panel that looked in the matter of gasoline prices these many many months ago.
