Hi! You guys are really informative. We are thinking about moving to ST. Can anyone tell me if it is practical to have a home garden? Chickens for eggs? Cows for beef? We want to buy acreage to have a small farm. Are there regulations concerning this? I can't seem to find a government website addressing this. Any info is greatly appreciated. : ) Thanks!

Hello Susan,

Having an individual home garden, chickens, cow, goats, pig... was the way it used to be done.

The St. Croix University of the VI campus has an agriculture research dept. I would suggest reading up on them and contacting them.

Contact (government office) the Department of Agriculture:

http://www.usvi.org/agriculture/

This document might be somewhat of interest:

The folks at Mt. Victory Campground on St. Croix have a garden, you can read about it here: http://www.mtvictorycamp.com/farm.html

A larger scale garden is Southgate Farms on St. Croix; I don't have a web site for them.

Well that should get you started. The Dept. of Agriculture will be able to fill you in on the laws/regulations.
