Garbage Question
I don't know what really made me think about it but it did come to me while I was walking around CA, STT a couple weeks ago and saw a garbage truck.
What do they do with the garbage on the VIs? I would imagine space would be too limited for a normal landfill like we have on the mainland. Just curious.
There is a landfill of St. Croix.
They exisit - quite the eyesore along with other issues. Anguilla Landfill is on St. Croix and Bovoni Landfill on St. Thomas. St. John garbage is compacted there and barged over to St. Thomas and Water Island I believe should be the same thing.

Thanks for the replies. I guess even Paradise has an ugly spot. 😉
Garbage is always on an island's most difficult problem list. In the
USVI garbage disposal has been argued and discussed for many years. There is currently a threat by the federal government to CLOSE the St Croix airport unless the Anguilla land fill is moved, closed, improved or otherwise changed so scavenger birds do not interfere with airplane landings and takeoffs. The Virgin Island Senate has chosen to ignore this threat. (obviously I do not know what negotiations are taking place). this is just one side of effect of garbage disposal. If someone could find a way to dispose of all the garbage we generate they could become very rich.
On a larger scale, the planet earth is an "island". It has the same problems, garbage, lack of usable water, air pollution, over population, you name it. Maybe the world should be looking at smaller islands and learning a lesson. Sorry no more preaching....
