Furniture
Good day everyone,
I looked for information regarding furniture on this site, but most was outdated.
Any recommendations for companies to buy some furniture from the mainland to have shipped here.
Not particularly pleased with the selections on the island for our tastes.
Looking for canopy king size beds, sectional, outdoor couch and love seat, and outdoor table and chairs.
Thanks
Sorry this is for STX.
We purchased all the furniture for our Caribbean house from Furnitureland South in North Carolina (near Greensboro). They have over 1 million square feet of showroom and will give you the services of a decorator at no charge. We had all the furniture dropped shipped directly from the various manufactures to a Freight Forwarder in Miami who consolidated everything in a container and shipped it directly to us on the island. All very easy.
Regardless of who you purchase your furniture from you'll have to basically do the same - have it shipped to an International Freight Forwarder in a major port city who will arrange for everything to be shipped to your particular island.
I realize it's not high end furniture, but you can order from Ikea using their Virgin Islands site https://www.ikea.pr/virginislands/en
The furniture will ship from their PR store and they usually have a special running with free shipping over $250.
Their outdoor furniture is pretty good and my daughter has a bedroom set that did well for over 10 years on the mainland.
We bought a sectional at Royal Furniture on STX and it's held up pretty well for about 2 years so far...
The best way to get furniture here that you've bought on the mainland is to have it shipped to Paradise Freight in Medley, Florida. They are very professional and will take good care of your cargo.
Thank you everyone for the replies.

We bought a bed from IKEA Puerto Rico last spring when they had a free shipping promotion, the bed as fine but I was surprised at how much work I needed to do to get the package to clear customs. It didn’t end up being free shipping, if you check my drift.
I think its best to use a company on island due to the fact if you have issues with it, then at least you have a place to go to. I ordered a Murphy bed from Amazon and it had multiple issues from cracked wood, to not lining up correctly where I had to drill and router it. Shipped through Paradise, wasn't damaged in shipping. In the box it had a piece of paper to call the manufacturer directly, so I did in an attempt to get just the replacement pieces and they wouldn't help me and told me to go through amazon. I called Amazon, they were going to ship me a new one, but I had to ship the old one back. Obviously living here, that would have been impossible, so Amazon agreed to giving me 50% back and I spent about 3 hours to get it back to where it should have been. If it was a company on island at least I could have had them fix it and been less aggravated.
I bought all my furniture from Rooms To Go when I moved to FL to furnish a 3 bedroom house as I rented my house on STT, fully furnished. I chose and ordered everything online. I was extremely satisfied.
The quality was excellent, all hardwood, solid, substantial furniture. Still looks brand new 4 years later and cost was around $10K which is way less than I would've spent buying new on STT.
I shipped personal belongings, artwork, china, and a few things I wanted for sentimental reasons to FL. It worked out great.
They have all different styles for every room in the house. They delivered on time and set everything up. I used Viking to ship my things from STT, they cleared customs, did all the paperwork and when delivered, they also unpacked and placed things where I wanted.
Plus I didn't have to assemble anything.
Good luck on whatever you decide.
