Have you ever considered that your entire plumbing system might be installed backwards and you might be flushing your toilets with hot water?
Also if you are some how running a water heater designed for 220 volts on 110 volts it can't be very efficent assuming it is possible..

Jim,
I don't know what to tell you. I know it is hard to believe that we lived (5 of us) on a 20 something gallon, 110 volt water heater, but we did. We rented didn't own and still paid for a lot of fix ups ourselves. In three of the 5 places we lived, we had a small 110 volt, 20 maybe 25 gallon water heater. The last two places we lived we had huge issues with water heaters, pumps, gas lines to stove, and electrical hookups. No we did not have the hot water running in the cold lines. The washer was just hooked up wrong. That was probably the easiest fix we had while living in the USVI. We got all up and knowledgeable with so many things we never thought we would have to think about. I have found a store to buy a water pump that was in the back porch of a home and found it by a tree in the middle of the street on STT. This isn't something I don't know anything about. With everything else we had to deal with on island, we did a pretty good job of conserving energy, keeping cool, fending off the bugs, and saving money everywhere we could. We never had to buy water and we lived in the hottest, sunniest, driest part of STT twice. I don't mean to sound defensive as I don't mind sharing my experiences so don't take it wrong. I am stating facts though and not making anything up. Three years ago if I were reading this I might have thought this lady is Crazy! Things can't be that bad! I still love my island experience and love my stateside experience. Nuf said.

Why is STT Resident banned?
Cuz she is British and her humor comes across as attacks and her attacks come across as humor. 🙂
I don't know. I wish she were back. People are so sensitive, me included sometimes. I try to let it roll off my back, learned that in the USVI.

Teresa, if it's any comfort - I believe you wholeheartedly. If our water gallon in our second rental on STX was 20 gallons, I'll eat my hat.....and it ran on 110......and it was okay.....and the water wasn't backwards, but sometimes you had hot water and sometimes you didn't (and it was a brand new unit). There were light sockets that had no electricity - outdoor lights that had no "guts" to make them work, or they worked but only if you turned on the kitchen light would the front porch light come on too. We even had bidets in every bathroom - but not hooked up. We turned one into a planter.
There's a good point for potential renters - turn on every single faucet and bathtub nozzle and flush every potty and flip every light switch.....things corrode so fast that you may find either they don't work, or no one bothered to hook them up. At least you know before you move in....
