Frequency Scanners in the VI
Is there anything interesting to hear on a scanner down here in the VI? I've always been interested having a scanner but don't want to waste my money if there is nothing compelling to listen in to.
I know many emergency services in other jurisdictions have gone digital and can't be heard on scanners anymore but we're so backward here, I thought I'd check with the board.
Also...does anyone use CB radios here anymore or has that technology gone by the wayside?
Any thoughts on this???
Guess your post isn't on the right frequency. 🙂 Even though many jurisdictions have scrambled their signals "de-scramblers" are already being sold on the open market. As far as CB radio I think a HAM radio might be the better choice.
Scanners work here just fine although the systen here is an odd one, mpt1327 based so none of the on scanner trun trackers will work. But you can listen in just fine with a standard VHF scanner as comms are unencrypted and you dont really need to follow the trunk to know whats going on. I did have software that controlled my radio to actually trunk track using a pc but in the end it actually wasnt worth it, I got more out of just scanning.
I have one running right now and radio comms here are actually quite professional. Aircraft radio is also very good to listen too and of course marine.
If you get a scanner I can list some freqs when I get a bit of time.
