If you are a French national, do you have a green card?

No, i don't have a green card....is it so difficult to have one ? some people told me that it's possible to come with a tourist visa to begin for 6 six months...and if i find a job there, maybe i could have a green card ??? thanks for your help.

Yes it is VERY difficult (it takes YEARS) to get a green card, no you cannot work with a tourist visa. Why don't you look into St. Maarten (the French side) where you might be able to work?

i prefer to work in STT for personnal reasons first, to improve my english too and to discover a new culture. and if it takes a year and more to have this card, i'm ready to wait, i'll be patient...!but i just want to know if there's a professionnal futur in USVI or no futur ? and is there a service or an administration (website) where there're all the ressources to find a job ? thanks a lot for all this details, Julie

Julie - Your best bet is to visit or call the nearest US Embassy and they will explain the procedures that you'll have to follow to apply for residency in the US (the same rules apply to the USVI's). It is illegal to work in the USVI's while on a visitor's visa and if you try you run the risk of being deported. You cannot just show up at the borders and expect to be alowed to live in the USVI's. If you are planning to work in the USVI's you must first get an work visa and these are difficult to acquire. You must posses a unique skill and your potential employer must prove that there are no US citizens qualified to fill the position. The process can take years. I personally know several Europeans who's applications for Work Visa took 3+ years to process and were denied.

Check the Us State Department web-site for more information.

Goto http://uscis.gov and look for the link to getting a "green" card. You'll find all the info you need to know there.
