french education

*My children currently study in a french immersion program in Chicago ( Lycee Francais de Chicago). Are there also some french immersion schools of good reputaion in the USVI.

Hello Jerry,

I don't know of any french schools like what you are describing. Alternatives... If they are high school students and of great standing you can speak with the university about enrolling in university level french courses. Also their are french professors that give private lessons...

Sideline: I am always amazed at the number of people of French descent who speak no French! Their parents/grandparents decided that they would be Americans and made sure they spoke English, but maybe went a bit too far!

speaking of which, what about people who speak spanish on st. thomas? are there many?

Yes quite a few Spanish speakers.. particularly on St. Croix.

I would say LOTS of Spanish speakers- from PR and the Dominican Republic. Also lots of French Creole/Patois speakers from Dominica and St. Lucia...
