Sandy,

I went to college in Boston and was amazed by the number of my friends that really enjoyed cold weather and snow. I like the cold about as much as you like the Virgin Islands at Christmas. Have a good holiday and stay warm.

A true New England loves the cold weather. Today, it is 60, but Sunday will be minus 2. I remember on 12/27/83, it was 72 degrees. Wasn't it Mark Twain that said if you don't like the weather in New England, then wait a few minutes.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the info guys, that answers my question perfectly. Looks like I'll have to nix the bike idea, at least as a mode of regular transportation.

Another question: How tough will it be to get a restaurant position (bartending/serving) on STX if I can't come down till the beginning of march? Experience isn't a problem, but I'm thinking openings might be? Thanks again.

And Jim- I had a friend stranded on Mt. Adams for 3 days right before xmas. 15" of snow and the entire city shut down. I almost couldn't make it out of Hyde Park.

Hello Parm,

March is getting toward the end of high season, however there are on-island guests during the summer months & some seasonal workers head back to the states at the end of season, so you should be able to find work. Things get much quieter during August through October; a few restaurants close for several weeks during those months. Bring enough money to keep you afloat for a couple months.

OK, I don't even want to know what the temp is outside right now in Kansas. All I know is two words: ICE STORM. Everthing is coated with ice. Power is expected to go out in parts of town because of the weight of ice on the power lines. Up to one inch of ICE expected by tomorrow. I easily dealt with state of emergency snowfalls in upstate NY, (snowmobiles helped) but this, this ICE is crazy! I can't wait for our visit to STX, it is what I will be thinking of when I am trying to hack my way into my car tomorrow. (Yeah right, like my place of employment might actually close tomorrow-ha ha ha!- people gotta eat 🙂

To add insult to injury, my sous chef called me today from Hawaii, asking how things are going, I told him about the storm, and he said "I heard something about that!" and he proceeded to hold his phone up so I could hear the sound of the beach! I could have either strangled him or hugged him at that moment 🙂

Anyway, hope all you island dwellers are enjoying your beautiful surroundings, you are envied right now and truly blessed!

Kendra
