Free testing for Zika on STX?
I know someone said STJ has free testing but is that available in STX? I gots the Zika. Ugh. Would like conformation but not paying for it.
Just did a quick search and found this.
Skip over the top about pregnant women and read towards the end.
Health is continuing to offer free Zika testing for pregnant women, regardless of if they are showing symptoms or not, and educational materials are being distributed in English and Spanish. Prevention tools such as mosquito nets, insect repellent and condoms are being given away free of charge to pregnant women at the following locations:
On St. Croix
– Department of Health MCH Clinic,
– Department of Health WIC Clinic,
– Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center,
– Frederiksted Health Center.
On St. John
– Health Care Connection,
– Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center.
On St. Thomas
– Department of Health MCH Clinic (Pediatric,)
– Department of Health Community Health Clinic (Prenatal,)
– Schneider Regional Medical Center,
– East End Medical Center.
Local information about the Zika virus can be obtained by calling the Department of Health Emergency Operations Center at 340-712-6205. For more general information about the Zika virus, call toll free: 1-800-CDC-INFO.
Health is also partnering with several labs and clinics throughout the territory to provide free virus testing for anyone who is showing symptoms. The department said that anyone who is turned away from testing or is told to pay for testing can call Health, since it has agreements in place with several facilities. The following should not charge for Zika testing:
On St. Croix:
– Acute Alternative Medical Group, 772–2883
– Beeston Hill Clinical Lab, 773–4990
– Clinical Laboratory Inc. (Sunny Isle), 778–5369
– Frederiksted Health Care, Inc., 772–0260
– Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center, 778–6311
– Primary Care PLLC, 718–7788
Thanks but I'm still a little confused. Seems you only get free testing of you're pregnant.
But then the last paragraph says of you're turned away to report it? Everyone or only pregnant women?
Adrian, it says for anyone who is showing symptoms. Maybe call before you go just to be sure, if you have the time and energy.
Yea. It was weird... I went to the states and of COURSE got sick. Every freaking time. International flying for 17hours.. no problem. As soon as I step foot in the states, BOOM -sick. I thought it was just a cold but to lasted three weeks... today I got a very zika looking rash all over my legs and back. I don't have fever or conjunctivitis but headache and rash so not sure 100%. The rash is gone down a lot throughout the day as I put hydrocortisone on it... maybe just heat rash? Its been hot AF. I have never in my adult life had a rash so it was a big surprise. Also very sleepless nights, like almost restless weird skin crawling feeling. Super weird. My thought was that I got zika and the cold at the same time, I had a stop in PR before FLL and I got eaten alive in my hotel room. Surprising because I turned the AC down to like 50 LOL! I was hurting real bad two weeks ago. Could barely move but had lots of chest congestion, coughing and nasal crap. Finally broke down and went to the Dr. and got meds but this rash just popped up today - after a full Zpack. Not that a Zpac would mater to Zika... just kinda weird overall illness. Im allergic to the states, I'm sure of it! 😉
On a side note - I forced myself a few days ago to go to the pier and snorkel. I did some free diving - Shallow and carefully - to get my sinuses moving since nothing was coming out after WEEKS. Sure enough after about an hour up and down I was able to clear 90% of my head and I felt immediately better. Last two days 80%. No soreness now so maybe not Zika but two weeks ago I could barely make it to the toilet.
are you sure its not dengue? the first time i got dengue i had a fierce headache and full body rash with a weird tingly feeling all over
the second time was much worse with flu like symptoms
Usually with dengue fever you feel like someone has taken a baseball bat to your body, (a feeling that with me, came and went) and there was soreness. Hence the name "breakbone fever."
I've had it twice. I very fatigued, and the rash I got was on the palms of my hands and soles of my feet which turned bright red!
Missed chikengunya but friends that had it said, "worse than dengue"
and so far, so good with avoiding zika, not that I'm doing anything different.
Fingers crossed.
Hope you feel better Adrianne.
I didn't think you could get any of these twice (Chicka, Dengue, Zika).
I thought once you contracted any of them an immunity kicked in?
A&A, a good, all natural salt water soaking (and rum), seem to fix most things in these islands!
SINGLEFIN, THERE are 4 different levels of dengue. you can get each of them once. i have had 2 . the last one was horrible but not life threatening. the first one was not horrible, just terrible with the headache and rash. so those i will never get again. but that does leave zika and the other one . dont want either. nor do i want the other 2 levels of dengue.
some people say there are 5 levels of dengue??
Adrian, I hope you are feeling better!
Here is a very informative site about dengue.
Did not know there where 4 or 5 levels of Dengue. Does not sound like fun at all. Being every biting insect seems to love me, I'm surprised I haven't cotracted anything yet. Not looking forward to it.
Yes, there are 4 types from what I can find:
Once you survive your first dengue infection, you're immune to that particular type of virus — but not to the other three types. Many countries are home to all four types, and someone who is reinfected is more likely to develop extreme symptoms.
Dengue how serious is this disease
Aren't we lucky!
I've heard once you get chikengunya, you're immune.
Unless, of course, they discover "different types."
