Frederiksted
I am a 55 year old single woman who chose to make St. Croix my home. I love Frederiksted and the people. I have never ever, ever, ever been fearful. Again, I believe living here is like living anywhere else. You must always use good judgment and good common sense. For those people who have only negative things to say about Frederiksted it is obvious that this is not the place for you. Good luck in finding your paradise. I have found mine.
I just spent a month on STX, all of which I stayed in FSTED. No problems in my book. No one every tried to rob, rape or beat me nor did I see any of that. I did not have a car so I walked the streets daily. I did not go out a night alot, I don't do that at home either. All I found was lots of friendly people, great restaurants, friendly store owners, a great Museum center for the Arts, great beaches, awesome dinner and jazz on Sat nights at Sandcastles. It is true you have to be careful, but I believe that everywhere you go you should. If you treat folks with respect you can expect to be treated the same. That place will be jumping as soon as the revitalization is complete. I love it and can't wait to move there. Not everyone likes to have Mustard on their burgers so not eveyone will like F'sted as a place to live.
This morning Steve mentioned that on STT and STJ local marshals took people off the streets to fill the jury pools. A quick web search led to the following article:

I wonder if rounding-up jurors in this fashion is legal stateside...
F'sted is a dump. It has lots of potential. But, let's face it, IT'S A DUMP. There are certainly charming aspects about the place, the beaches are nice, as will the waterfront be if they ever get done with construction, but IT'S A DUMP.
C'mon. I'm fond of the place. I used to live there. I eat at the restaurants, drink at the bars, and swim on the beaches .... BUT IT'S A DUMP!
Hell...IT'S NOT LEGAL HERE.
Course, illegality never stopped the government from doing anything before -- why now?
"People have different living standards, mine is higher than described above. "
What does that mean?
As far as realtors to check with here's an FYI. When I moved on the island about a year or so ago, I had an AWFUL experience with John McCarthy and would NOT recommend him at all. Didn't seem to be interested in helping the little people who weren't worth much money to him.
Can recommend Lorine Williams at Coldwell Banker as well as just coming here are finding something, its not all that hard. We ended up doing most of the work ourselves via the newspaper!
Good luck!
Hello,
My wife and I had visited Frederiksted last March and November and thought it was pretty safe. We realize that is is not as kepted up as Christiansted, but it is coming around. The wharf was being worked on when we were there, and once it is completed it will be really nice.
We had visited that city three different times and had very nice meals in the St Tropez French restaurant as well as one of the local carribbean restaurants. The people we encountered in the shops & restaurants were very nice. We did not feel threatened at all.
We walked on the boardwalk near the fishing boats and saw turtles in the water, which made the day a very nice one.
As some people mentioned, it is an Island and you can't expect it to look like the big cities from home. The paint on the buildings are always faded. But overall the embiance is beautiful.
I can't wait to go back on our next visit.
