I am totally in agreeance with the whole Kenny Chesney thing. I bought the CD on March 5th and have not listened to ANYTHING else. I know that's a little obsessive, but the relaxing songs remind me that I'll be in STX on May 30th! 🙂 Also, it's a great, stuck-in-Houston-traffic CD. I find myself a much more curteous driver and I'm not in so much of a rush. Life's too short to be in such a rush.

"Tired of my beeper, tired of my phone.
Tired of this tired ol tie I got on.
Sick of this TRAFFIC JAM that I'm in,
We all get sick of it all now & then".

I would recommend this CD to anyone wanting a little bit of an "escape" from the daily grind. It really puts things in perspective!

well when the sun goes down is his older one...they are all good, i have them all. my favorite song is "boston"...alright everyone who is hooked, whats your favorite?

also, i like the "french kissing life" song...my mom loves it because it says..."im floating round/through Gorda sound/ with a cooler and a bong" because my grandparents lived on Virgin Gorda for 10 years and my mom spent summers there...probably smoking a bong i am guessing :O

Meg,

Hhmmmmm.... Hard to pin it down to one favorite for me... I think I often listen to Be as You Are because it reflects a great deal of how I feel right now and what I am looking forward to.... but I think my "favorite" song is actually Something Sexy About the Rain. Again, it is difficult to pin that one down because it may be a different song next week that I like best 🙂

Island Rat and I are on the long countdown as well. Another really good island flavor artist is Jim Morris. He has a website (do search can't remember). Our last big ticket item to make things easier in NW Ohio was a hot tub last fall. It is in an enclosed cabana and we used it all winter. We call it the StCroix Cabana. Hopefully we have a better timeline come May 13 when the military brac list comes out...

Eve,

Keep us posted!!! We are eagerly awaiting your arrival! It is an excuse for me to finally visit St. Croix. Chris has been there several times, but after 9 months I have still only visited St. John from St. Thomas.

To all you Long Countdowners,

I had three months before I moved and it wasn't nearly enough time. I needed another 9 months to really get organized, but we made it anyway. I have only lived on STT for 9 months, but trying to remember the chaos that happened before I moved is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I either don't want to remember, have deleted it from my memory, or just can't imagine life anywhere else now that I am settled into island life.

Today was a clear day and we drove around taking in the sights. It was one of those days where we pinch ourselves to remind us that we actually live here and are not dreaming. Not all days are like that, but weekends are usually reserved for taking in the sights and enjoying the island before going back to the workweek. Enjoy your days of being able to buy groceries at low prices and the abundance that the mainland provides. Soon you will actually miss being able to get everything you need in one store. 🙂

Teresa,
I'll keep you posted. I've been trying not to be obsessive. (you all know what I mean) Mark and I have some properties we are interested in and may be down soon to look at them. Key word is MAY at this point though. Mark may lose his job with the military base closures. Everyone is going to meet at a local bar on that day and either celebrate or cry in thier beer. Mark and I will be celebrating if it closes. Should be funny if it closes and we're buying rounds. Not to many though cause we're saving for the move...

The name of the Kenny Chesney album is Be As You Are. It is wonderful! It really makes you want to move NOW! Unfortunately we have older children that it would not be in their best interest yet. The youngest is 13 and has big dreams of playing football for The University of Alabama. "ROLL TIDE"! That means our wait will be about 6 years!!!!!!! My husband and I will probably go crazy before then. The biggest thing we want is to escape the rat race of the mainland. The city we live in is small compared to many of you I am sure. Just not small enough... Til the time comes, we will keep reducing our debts, avoid the big ticket purchases, (who needs a new car when you have a good one already!) and acculmate some cash. The countdown is on though...

The name of the Kenny Chesney album is "Be as you are" if you haven't found out already. It will really make your dream seem more like the best thing you ever decided!

everyone,

it's good to see that a lot of you are looking at st croix to move to. this island is wonderful! been here for almost 4 years and still loving it. don't get me wrong, it's not for everyone. but if you come with the right attitude and the fact that you're not gonna change anyone else other then yourself, you'll do alright. feel free to check me out at the airport at cape air or at my coffee shop (tropical java) in frederiksted.

When I moved to this island six months ago from the states,I had little problem getting into the mindset of having only 2 large suitcases, and a couple boxes on an airplane with my daughter and two big dogs.I wanted to start a NEW life.Material items are easier to accumulate than you think,no matter where you go.The things that really matter in life are the things you cannot replace and they are NOT material at all.

Thank you all for your posts. I agree; it stinks to wait so long but feels good to know thatyou will be there soon. I have to focus on not getting cold feet and keeping resolve. In the short run it would be easy to just say forget it but in the long run I would always as "what if?". Anyhow, I have about 1.5 years left. I'm out of cold and wonderful chicago right after I finish my MA. Its also hard getting a timeline together for transitioning. Well, that you all for these great noes. I'll be checking out the webcam!
.
Patty 🙂
