So have a great story to say about STX and banks.....

I am over in STX visiting friends and partially for work as well. Have been wanting to get a STX bank account because I do work in St Thomas for a St Croix company and would make things easier even though I have a First Bank acct so I decided to open up an account with Bank of St Croix in Gallows Bay.........

It was AWESOME. ! .... I went in about 9:45 and was first and no one waiting for customer service rep. I asked opening deposit amt and went to ATM ,got cash, went back in. The rep was nothing but nice and start to finish was painless and took 15 minutes. I was so impressed I asked to speak to the branch manager and spoke praises about the rep and her professionalism and told the manager that the rep was a keeper !!!

Never had a banking experience in 20 yrs in the VI go so smooth and confirms all that I have heard about Bank of St Croix

Internet banking is a bit behind the times. And it took 3 trips once to get someone available who could give me a certified signature. But other than that, staff is courteous and efficient, and our banking rolls along smoothly.

They are good for everyday consumer deposit accounts and its great to go into the branch and see no one else in line.

We used to use them for our business too. At one point, we wanted to expand our 40+ year old, well established, very profitable business so, of course, we went to Bank of St. Croix. I was shocked when they turned us down without even looking at the proposal. Old Jim the manager said they just weren't interested in that in working with us on it despite our credit worthiness.

We went to Banco Popular with our proposal, were met with open arms and have been with them ever since along with all our other banking business.

Sure we still keep a small account at Bank of St Croix with a few bucks in it, but I'll never forgive them for blowing us off. The bank primarily exists to finance its owners (the Armstrong family) other business interests rather than their customers.

What identification do you need to open an account, because I've been told you need a utility bill, which would take a while to get after here. If you're staying with friends, what was required for you to open an account?

Thanks in advance.

So the ATM machine at gallows bay was down today. I could not withdraw cash from either a stateside account or a bank of st croix account. It took 10 minutes to try 3 times.

Went inside and was told that without a temporary check i could not make a withdrawal.....
They also didn't seem to care about the ATM and seemed annoyed i came in to tell them..

Thinking about switching banks.

I have to agree, the customer service at bank of STX has really gone downhill; Christiana needs to come out front once in awhile and see the state of things.

I have no idea and I shouldn't have to care.
I'm a customer trying to get hold of some of my money.
I don't really mind the occasional issue with atms.. but making it a project to take out money without them is simply wrong.

Why couldn't you swipe your debit card inside and get cash?

Because that was not an available option?
As i said above they said the only way to withdraw cash without the atm was to use a check or temporary check

i am not negating your frustration at all. but not everything can be controlled or is the fault of a person or entity. sometimes shit happens. at the end of the day you kind of have to ask yourself was it worth your frustration getting angry at something that was not the fault of the bank

I have never had a debit card in all the years I've lived here. Too many scams.

Then you don't have credit cards either? I got rid of credit cards well over 20 years ago but the debit card is an essential for me and I've never had any problems with it.
