To carry on with the positive vibe of the kudos to JFL...

If you've been avoiding Foodfair (STX east end) due to the lack of inventory you may want to drop in and have a look. Solomon and Ali (hope I got their names correct) from Foodtown have taken over while Yusef takes a break off island. They understand the importance of having stocked shelves and coolers - with items customers want. From my prospective, they've been doing a pretty good job of it. If you don't see what you want, tell them! They will do their best to get it for you. In fact there's a pad at the register on which you can write your requests. This is a great little store in a great location for east enders. Let's help them stay in business!

Yusef was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He didn't foresee his cousin buying the Schooner Bay Market location and that cut into his traffic big time.

Then, in a desperate bid to differentiate and drive traffic, he wasted a ton of money on the pizza concept. I really thought his pizzas were good and ordered them often. But he told me he lost money on every pie.

When it was obvious that pizza wasn't working, he blew another wad on the sandwich concept. But, by the time he got to the sandwich concept, he was bleeding money and the sandwiches were very small and expensive so people didn't buy them after the first try.

The Foodtown guys, who are related to Yusef, have lots of money and can easily sustain the east end store while it builds a loyal clientele. It is a nice store but I stopped going there when the selection dwindled. Maybe I'll drop in again.

I did drop by Food Fair yesterday to pick up a six pack of Heineken. The grocery shelves were only slightly better stocked than the last time I was in during Yusef's last days. The beer cooler was sparsely stocked and well picked over.

Overall...not impressed with the changeover and will stick with Stop N Save across from the ballpark. Good luck to them.

They stay open until 9 now. Look for a new sign on the building in the next few days.

It will be called Food Town Express.
