I intend to move to St John within the next year or so. I may rent to start but thought I would post to see if anyone is interested in a comfy and clean Orlando home? It's a 3 bedroom home, nice neighborhood, 20 min from airport and 10 min from downtown. Approx value is $225 K. I'm interested in a full trade/swap or trade plus cash for a small home in St John.

From what I see in the give-away real estate magazines here you're going to have to add a lot of cash if you want to swap in STJ. Have you checked the real estate prices?

I am a Realtor on STJ - from your post it does not appear that you have spent much time on STJ and especially much time looking at homes here.

FYI, currently on the MLS, is a home listed for $310,000 - 216 square feet 1 bedroom 0 bathrooms (as I have not seen this home I think that maybe an error but maybe not) no view.

If you are looking to purchase here - send me a PM and maybe I can help you, but I doubt you will find anyone here willing to swap, but you never know.

Good luck

Pia

Yes, understood. I've researched MLS and prices are high on the island. I intend to sell and add cash in hopes of having a managable mortgage. You never know , there might be someone ready to move to the mainland. Orlando is a good town for jobs and quality of life. Never hurts to pose a question - any takers?

Really not trying to be mean but it sounds more like wishing then asking, the prices are just way too far apart. Don't starter homes begin at about 1 million on stj (homes not condos)?

I've seen them in the 500k range. I'm only inquiring, it can't hurt to ask. I've been researching for several weeks with multiple trips over the course of several years.

Just wondering, as I've only lived down here for a little over a decade...but doesn't everyone else wince, too, when they have to visit the States? I mean, after living here, you'd hafta take me to Orlando in a casket! I don't even wanna FLY over the Rat's place (Micky Mouse)! Haha! I mean, sure I hafta go to the States for my job, I've been to TN twice and Miami once, just in the past 3 months....but the only thing that made it bearable was the Burger King and Taco Bell!

I wish you the best of luck in finding someone that would like to trade, my friend.

Please stop Marty - Rat's house is not in Orlando. It's in LBV / Kissimmee. Orlando is completely different. Clean, fun town. Most people are like you - think Disney and Orlando are the same. They are NOT. Hey, maybe people need to find better schools or jobs. Both are here. I can sell house, no problem. Just trying to reduece steps needed to move.

I've not been to Orlando but I'm quite sure there are loads of people who love it there & want to stay & more who would like to move there. It certainly has boomed in the last few decades so I sure won't knock it. If everyone loved any certain spot, including here, there'd be no room.

Tinab, good luck & I hope you can find something affordable.

Yep, just looked at a map...yer right...gotta be at least 6 miles to Orlando from LBV. However, I don't quite think you understand what I meant in my post. People that have lived here for a while eschew the mainland for various reasons, not the least of which is the Rat...there's LOTS more to it than that! To each his own, I say.....and I'm stayin' right here.

Staying here, moved to Atlanta (hated it), moved to Lauderdale (hated it), moved to south central Ga in country (still hated it!
Came back home (love it!) Except for WAPA! 🙂

Hi Tinab,

I think it's an interesting idea. I'm wondering if you've considered the other islands (STX or STT). I don't know for sure, but I think the real estate is less expensive on those islands.

I'm hoping that Alexandra will provide her thoughts on this... she always has interesting view points...

Good luck...

Yes, we have considered the other USVI and BVI islands and they may be less expensive but St John is our first choice. I'm not in a hurry, lots of steps to get properly set up down there. I've learned patience has its rewards. We're looking for a switch to a laid back lifestyle and St John seems to fit our style . My husband and I plan to be on the water sailing often once we get there. So a small place is all we'll need when we're landside. We'll probably keep a small place here stateside too. Our kids are here so I expect we'll want to get back to visit often. Thanks for all the feedback. I'll be down for a week in July and hope to gather much more info then too.
