Hello,

I had spoken with a local firefighter on St. Thomas a few months ago to ask questions concerning firefighter jobs for another person. His thoughts were: With experience you would be welcomed, added that it saves the dept. the expenses of sending you off island to train. He said that there is a need for firefighters and suggested contacting Chief Potter, Milo Francis and/or Mr. Willams (I think he said Williams was a Lt. and that the order I listed them in is the chain of command.) He said that he was very sure the pay would be less then what you are making now (referencing firefighters in the states) but didn't specify a salary. He said if a firefighter is willing to take a paycut, he was sure their skills would be a welcomed addition. He said call the administrative office at (340)774-7610, send your resume and good luck.

So I'd say give them a call and see what the deal is.

Just for reference, from the 2002 US Labor Bureau of Stats, the salary for Fire Fighters is listed as: Fire Fighters: Employed - 220; Mean Annual: $23,310

I noticed you said you want to become a firefighter though... so I am assuming you aren't as yet, no experience/training. If thats the case then you will have more difficultly than is mentioned in the post above.
