fire and ems jobs?
I am a fulltime firefighter/EMT with a family wife and three kids. What are the jobs like in the fire/ems field down there pay hours etc.
Fire and EMT are separate departments of the local government. I don't have the salaries that were posted most recently in the Virgin Islands Daily News handy, but they are assuredly lower than they should be.
According to a 2010 document from the Governor's office, there are several combination firefighter/EMTs on St Croix but only one for the St Thomas/St John district. I believe many of the firefighters are part-time, not full time.
TOUGH. I just had my friend who was a FF and EMT have to move off island for lack of jobs. Its a small community. Not that it can't be done but he found it too hard to get "in".
Especially when the heads of these department would rather have us pay overtime than hire qualified new personnel for less.
EMT dept. is a mess. Can't say about Fire Services. If you do get hired for any Gov. job be sure you have $$$ to survive on until they finally get your NOPA approved and cut you your first check, months after you started work.
