The nationwide average tax on gasoline of 49.5 rose 1.4 cents since January 2011. A summary of federal and state excise taxes and other taxes collected on gasoline is shown below. The federal tax on gasoline is 18.4 cents per gallon. The average state gasoline excise tax is 20.6, unchanged from the previous quarter. Other taxes (such as applicable sales taxes, gross receipts taxes, oil inspection fees, county and local taxes, underground storage tank fees and other miscellaneous environmental fees) rose to 10.5 cents per gallon from January. Adding these taxes and fees to the state excise taxes results in a volume-weighted average state and local tax of 31.1 cents per gallon.

5/28/11, my wife filled up @ Shauma (Sunny Isle). Credit cards accepted. $10 increments - Regular was $3.77 minus 10% w/ senior card = approx $3.40/gallon pd.

"regular price reduced .12 cent at the rack----dealers will pay $3.19 per gallon(this includes .07 cent tax posted at pumps)
Hopefully we will see the decrease sooner than later at the service stations.

Shauma offers 10% discount for seniors, and takes credit cards
Road Runner offers 10% discount to seniors, VETERANS, teachers, firefighters and police. Does not take credit cards yet.

NOTE Did see several stations on St Croix at $3.69---so if your not eligible for any of the discounts above, you should be able to get for 43.69 at several locations.

Try Donny's Discount Gas in Springfield. Their price-per-gallon ends in $0.008 instead of $0.009!

Regular gas increased by five cents, $3.19 to $3.24
Not sure how this impacts the cost on St Croix, probably will go up for all stations who get delivery this week.

Just wondered why gas was so high on STX with a refinery right on the island. With fish all around the island, maybe charge them
for a fish dinner, per ounce, what they charge the public, for gas, per gallon. Sauce for the goose and sauce for the gander...
Maybe a horse drawn public trolley would help save gas costs too. STX is flatter than STT, so, why not ? When gas prices go up, have the horses say "neigh" !! LOL. Recycle horse wastes onto the vegetation for fertilizer along with politicians hot air.

Gas prices here are "manipulated" by Hovensa (Hess/PDVSA aka Nat'l Oil Co of Venezuela) to track or mimic the speculative price for sweet crude on Wall Street (NYMEX).
I'm sure only a few people at Hovensa &PDVSA know what this refinery really is paying for the high sulfur Venezuelan crude which is lower priced than NYMEX Crudes or Brent Crudes unless Chavez is taking advantage of Venezuela's supply situation.. In short I strongly suspicion we are getting "hosed". Then the independent gas station operators have a much higher mark up on the gasoline here vs the markup at Hess gas stations on East Coast. Those Hess stations buy the same gas from the same refinery the independent owners do. Sorry if I sound suspicious but that's how I feel.

The Source June 21, 2011 Gas Prices Rise Slightly on St. Croix
Hovensa raised the rack price six cents per gallon for regular gasoline and seven cents per gallon for premium this week, bringing wholesale prices to $3.17 and $3.40 per gallon, respectively, moving slightly in the opposite direction from nationwide trends.
