Final Moving Questions
Good morning,
After several years of planning my wife and I are finally making the move down to St. Thomas. We have just purchased a condo and are in the final steps before boarding our plane at the end of the month. General questions we still have:
Shipping? - We have a Nissan Frontier that we own out right, best shipping experience from Florida
- We have read in other posts that Meme St.John is the BEST?
Contractor? - Who is a good one to use, we need our floors replaced in our small condo
Flooring? - Best place on island to buy/order flooring
- Floor factory is who we have been referred to thus far
Furniture? - best place on island to buy
- Silk Greenery was suggested by our real estate agent
Insurance? - who should we use to insure both the truck and condo
Banking? - what on island banking is best?
- We have heard bad things about them all, but if anyone has any insight on the least terrible option
Any advice or help answering these questions would be greatly appreciated. Or if you have any tips for the move we would love to hear them!
See you soon!
For shipping your car, I prefer Tropical Shipping over Crowley. They are more expensive but they seem to have less issues than Crowley. You can contact them at customercare@tropical.com for a quote. If you need inland shipping to get it to the port they can quote that too. Be ready to provide height length width and weight as well as year make model and value. I recommend Boynes Trucking to clear and register it once it arrives.
the Floor Factory and Silk Greenery are good but expensive in most cases. Shipping from the states may be the way to go with both. You can ship through Tropical for that as well. And uses Boynes to clear it.
of all the banks available Merchants Commercial Bank is the one I have liked the most.
I currently use Inter Ocean Insurance. Not the cheapest. But they are the most responsive and everything can be done through emails and online.
good luck!
