Ferry on reef?
Has anyone else heard any reports of a Virgin Gorda - USVI ferry running aground on a reef off STJ on Thurs night?

Is anybody aware of the ferry accident that happened Thursday night? The ferry returning from Virgin Gorda hit a reef! Did anybody hear about this?

No, but it wouldn't be surprising.
Let us know if you hear more.
Nothing on VI Source at this time.
i believe that is the reason we stopped having ferry service between stt and stx

The last ferry operating between STT and STX went up on rocks off STT on July 4 2011 after a special holiday outing to the St John carnival but it was in financial trouble way before that - which was the fate of its several predecessors.
A new privately funded ferry is apparently in the works:

According to an article in the BVI Beacon there was a recent incident involving a resort ferry but it wasn't as recent as this week:
"Recently, a Virgin Gorda resort’s ferry had problems with its hydraulics and lost its steering, roaring through Trellis Bay. Fortunately, it caused very little damage, largely because it got caught on a mooring line before it hit the rocks looming up ashore. The hotel guests aboard were wide-eyed and rather worried to say the least! A quick reaction on the part of the captain to turn off the engine’s power would have lessened the risk of potential damage to people and other boats."
According to the article's author this sort of thing happens quite frequently. (td)
Let's see, they've run up on Great St. James heading back to STX after Carvival which was a special run, a Westin ferry on the reef at the entrance at Grand Cruz Bay, think it was Smith's brand new ferry on the triangle reef, they've had encounters with dinghies, other passenger boats, each other, in the case of 2 barges and that's just what immediately comes to mind.
A small amount of info on the same site I 1st saw it on - thanks all.
there is always a "new ferry service " in the works
Warren Mosler is said to be having a new ferry built on STX at Gold Coat Yachts.

Personally, I would never again take a ferry from STX to STT having been so sea sick, I wanted to jump overboard and kill myself.

That's the one in the works which I linked earlier. It may well be a feasible option as it's being built specifically for this crossing while all the other boats have been "transplants" from stateside.
Warrens ferry will be much more stable in rough waters
