I was wondering if there is a ferry from San Juan to St. Croix. We are having a difficult time arranging air transportation from San Juan to St. Croix for our dog. The cage size seems to be larger than Cape Air will carry and it cannot be any smaller for Continental Airlines to bring the dog to San Jaun...Kinda of a paradox...

Hello Paul,

There is one from San Juan to St. Thomas that runs just a couple times a month but not to St. Croix that I know of.

Onika didn't you have this problem as well - what did you figure out to do?

The only other airlines that fly from San Juan to St. Croix are Caribbean Sun, American Eagle, and the seaplane. Try calling them up if you haven't as yet.

There are a couple of boats, the Mary G and the Norma H, (I think) that ship freight between STT and STX. You might try one of those, if you can get from San Juan to STT.

Paul,
We had this precise problem when we relocated with our 55-60lb dog.
Our carrier definitely exceeded Cape Air's maximum measurements, but we had a rounded space-age carrier, the "Petzazz" carrier. It turned out it fit perfectly in the back of Cape Air's flight. If you were on-island I would lend it to you (it seems wasteful to purchase one just for the move), but it really came in handy. It also has wheels and a handle for ease of transport in the terminals.
Check it our here: http://www.petcomplete.com/other_animals_pet_supplies/p/Pet_Supplies/PetZazz_Pet_Kennel_Carrier_13408.htm

Also, I think Cape Air was willing to work with me because we were already at the SJU airport and it was obvious I would have broken down in tears if Sydney wasn't going to be able to get on the plane with us. For obvious reasons, I am not recommending that you throw caution to the wind and go despite being warned by Cape Air that your carrier exceeds their size restrictions. But this was our experience.

Paul:
Looks like Petsmart's site is down.
I found this look-alike:
