I have yet to see guards with sawed of shotguns guarding the cash registers in grocery stores or guards with '
M16's in front of the banks allowing only one customer at a time in.
I have seen this in 3rd world countries!

I have to get ready for my flight but I'm starting to think someone's a troll. Sint Maarten is Dutch with the other half being French St. Martin. Your "friend" who came here & thought St. Thomas was worse than Haiti has obviously never been to Haiti.

I've never been to Haiti... and I'm not a troll. I'm merely stating what I have heard. In fact I've never stepped foot off of the cruise scene in the Caribbean.

This guy is getting his kicks by getting everyone riled up; let's leave him alone and hope he goes away soon.

I'm actually trying to learn about the Caribbean and if it is some place I would want to call home (for a while). The crime, poverty and corruption are major factors in my decision making process so I do reference what I have heard and what I think I know. With some people on here already being in the USVI, I am hoping to be corrected where wrong and advised where needed.

Instead, I am called a troll.

Michael,
I don't understand Ihre erklarung dafur ist schade, konnen sie auf dieser das ist keine aufwardige installation.

Trade,
I agree with you 100%. He gave his game up when he requested no straw man argument on another thread.

What game was this exactly... what because I didn't want to have to respond to hyperbole? I've since seen your response and replied to it. But I'm trying to determine what level of asshole you think I am.

Please see my post before this one.

Dan: I don't think you are one. But I do think you need to come to the Caribbean for a visit. The culture is different from where you live, from New Zealand and from Tenerife. It is never going to be like the places you are referencing. Come down for a visit. Okay? 🙂

Right on. Like I said we have a recce planned end of September. I'll post when it's close to see if anybody wants to get together for a beer. As for the vibe, I will be honest that the attitudes on here have been "odd" to say the least, but I have also chatted with some very nice and polite people as well. Kiwi's are laid back, in Tenerife it was mostly just English expats and Philly is well nice but slightly hostile.

[ I will be honest that the attitudes on here have been "odd" to say the least, but I have also chatted with some very nice and polite people as well..

LOL now we get to the crux of the matter! (so to speak)

Dan nearly 'every not born here' to the islands has his/her story(tu) I mean what kind of people give up good jobs and family on the continent to live in a third world country? I highly recommend you read " Don't Stop the Carnival" prior to visit anywhere in El Carribe and then read it again when you return to get the full effect.

As far as odd vibes .... well it feels to me you might fit right in 😀

LOL at that last bit... I know and it's something I need to work on. I just ordered Don't Stop from Amazon and I should get it by Wednesday as it looks quite good.

When you read DSTC you may find yourself thinking this is total BS - nothing could be this screwed up. Believe it.
This is why I suggest a before and after read. You will be much more appreciative of the book after being here - tho you can do the tourist thing and not get the true feel of life on the rocks. Is why you neeeeeeeed an extended PMV. Now don't do I do but as I say. I arrived on my sailboat during a Caribbean misadventure of many islands and the vibe was HOME on STX.

I suggest you listen to the open line program on Paradise 95 and you will hear some really reasoned opinions and some unreasoned opinions LOL ! Also invent a home project - something "simple" like rehabbing a bathroom and kitchen on the continent and go to duplicate it on whatever rock you visit. You may have to chase a dozen places looking the simplest of items. Sure you mind find a nice water closet but not find a wax ring anywhere. Can't find shims for the cabinets. Every drill screw on the island is Phillips headed but you can only get square driver bits.... Hopefully you get the idea. That's why you gotta live the life to truly understand. I mean really? Freeze protection for hose bibs for sale at K-Mart????

The Germans I know - family and friends - tend to be organized and scheduled and would just go nuts trying to live in the VI. Me I'm half Irish rover and that's with whom I identify. That's why I'm the redheaded step child. Look up ADD in the dictionary and you will likely find my picture LOLROTF . Yes stereotypical I'm ashamed to say but is how I observe things. Thank heaven for Firefox and spell check. 😀
