Farmers' Markets on STX and what they sell
You can get a lot of different produce at the Farmer's Markets. Sejah Farms in Glynn has a coop and in my box this last week I had papaya, cabbage, dandelion greens, pear and regular tomatoes, bok choi, lettuce, Pomerance(a type of fruit), mangoes, arugula, etc. They have also grown zucchinni, cucumber, brocolli, brussel sprouts, canteloupe, peppers, pumpkin, green beans, etc. We can grow just about anything here, but it is getting it to produce and also keeping it watered that is a challenge.
We do have seasons, and right now with it being summer, plants will start to produce less and less 🙁 However, in the fall and winter months produce is abundant.
I also hear we can grow raspberries here on island but they must be heavily mulched, in a shady spot, and watered super well in order to produce in our winter.
Where is Sejah Farms and where is Glynn?
Sejah Farms is midisle on St. Croix. Without a frame of reference as to what you know, I will take you from Country Day School. Pass CDS on your left, follow North side road until you come to a gas station on your right. Turn Right at the gas station, go through the light at Woodson. Follow the road towards Annaly Meat Market. About 1/2 a mile, 1 mile down the road from the lights there is a paved turn off on your left. Take that left and Sejah Farms is on your right. It has a bunch a army green trailers on the property, plus a big sign. If you get to the new construction for the National Guard(on left side of road) you went too far.
Hope that helps!
It does. Do they run a farmers market or is it purely a CSA? I'd love to check it out.
They do both. They are open at least 4 days a week (T-S), but may be open Monday's too. They have a website www.sejahfarm.com
Really great people and they also bring in local meats that are organic.
