Fake Roti
@ ms411
Can you please out the businesses/restaurants/shops that are passing fake rotis?
I wouldn't want to give them ANY business from me or my friends, even if we are not ordering rotis. Don't want to give them our hard earned money!
Roti is like saying "a hamburger" or "fried chicken". There are as many versions as you can imagine. Apparently originated in India, Roti is merely the Sanskrit word for "bread." In effect, "roti" = "sandwich". First "roti" I ever had was in a Mediterrenean restaurant up north. It had curried lamb in it, not chicken.
Many on island make the crepe out of chickpea flour. A wheat flour tortilla would not be an abomination, just not as tasty or light in texture. That said, IMO it's what they put IN the roti that makes it or breaks it.
A local lady supplies me with my favorite chicken/curry rotis. WOW am I hungry now. :-X
Yeah, but if they want to use tortillas, why not just call it a curried (whatever) burrito and be done?
we usually call her on the cell phone, so when i get to work i will post for you.
The only problem with calling her on her cell the day you want roti is you'll get whatever she's got left over from her regular customers. It's best if you call the day before and schedule the delivery so you can get veggie or whatever. I think boneless chicken is the most popular! My preference is for veggie, and the last time I rendezvoused with her, she had sold out.
She's such a sweetheart!
Just thinking as I was shopping in Plaza Extra.
Do you think the "fake rotis" were made from the frozen East Indian flat breads??
There are many different types on sale in the East Indian frozen food section.
Just a thought.
call ahead for hot roti, it's joanne cooksey 340-998-8939.
