Louis Armstrong once said, “To jazz, or not to jazz, there is no question!” International Capital & Management Company (ICMC) is excited to announce the expanded version of its Jazz in the Park music series, scheduled for 2-9 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, in Roosevelt Park on St. Thomas.
New York-based, Trinidadian jazz great Etienne Charles will serve as the evening’s headliner, followed by jazz vocalist Lori Williams and her ensemble direct from Washington D.C. Both bring their unique jazz styles to the main stage along with some popular jazz standards. The Virgin Islands’ Flip Switch Band and the Jah Soljah’s Band, along with a host of other local talent, will rock the second stage.
“As the Jazz in the Park event continues to evolve and grow, the hope is to continue to make the event engaging by offering innovative items, as we continue to move this highly anticipated series forward,” said ICMC Director of Community Relations Karen Nelson-Hughes.
In addition to expanding the event to include an additional stage featuring varied genres of music, this free event will also feature three major components: a Health and Wellness Expo, a Cultural Korner and a VI Art Walk, which will feature original art work from artists young and old.
A multitude of local vendors will participate in the Vendor’s Row areas that will feature art, food and other locally made products for sale as well as cultural storytelling and cultural arts and crafts for the children.
“As one of ICMC’s signature community events, we always want to keep building on the wonderful positive momentum and community spirit that the event has and continues to evoke as it lives up to its mantra to ‘bring the community together through music,’” said Cornel Williams, ICMC president. “At ICMC, we also feel strongly about partnering with the missions of organizations such as Downtown Revitalization Inc. in an effort to continue to bring life, culture and energy back to the once burgeoning downtown St. Thomas area.”
So, bring your family and friends and join us as we bring you the biggest Jazz in the Park music series to date. Sponsors include: Innovative, USVI Dept. of Tourism, Barefoot Wines and Budweiser, CFVI, United Jazz Foundation and Mentoring Through the Arts of Music.
To participate as a vendor, ICMC is currently accepting applications. To apply or for more information, contact Karen Nelson-Hughes at hughesk@icmcvi.com or via phone at 777-1302.
