exercising on St. Thomas
Hi,
Does anyone know about a good place to take a jog in St. Thomas as opposed to running on the street. For instance are there any jogging/walking trails? Also, does anyone know how the fitness clubs in St. Thomas are? Equipment? Monthly membership fee? Hours?
I don't want to give up my exercise routine after moving there.
Tiffany
Hello Tiffany,
I do know there are a few gyms on St. Thomas. I haven't checked them out yet, but as far as jogging goes. From what I saw, the only place to jog was the airport. A lot of people jog in the mornings there. It is the only place flat enough to keep up a steady jog. Hope that helps.

There is a golds gym right downtown, a few gyms in redhook and one at crown bay which are very very reasonable and really nice. Over by Brewers beach by the university is a wonderul area to jog. As you live here you will find more and more wonderful places to run. Several times a year there are organized runs for charity events thru the mountains and rain forest, sometimes at the beaches. These are a lot of fun! There are also a lot of organized biking, swimming and sailing events for charity.
If your into excercising you will find plenty to keep you fit!
Hi Tiffany,
Not sure if this will help, but I'm a member of the Curves fitness clubs and there is one here on STT and another in St. Croix. I went to the STT one yesterday (you can use any one if you are a member anywhere) and it was great. Good energy and MUCH better music than we have in Chicago - on top of working off some of those Bushwhackers that one tends to ingest here!
Take care and enjoy,
TCorn
Hi Tiffany--
Excercise is also a huge concern of mine. You might be interested in STAR, which is St Thomas Assoc. of Runners, or something like that. I beleive the contact person is Teresa Hodge at 775-6373.
There is also a beautiful excercise faciliity at Antilles School. Also a gym at Nisky Center.

Hello,
Magens Bay is another spot folks jog, walk, run, kids on bikes, mom's with strollers... along the road and the beach in the afternoon (usually around 5:30pm on weekdays).

Good spots to run: the airport road, waterfront from Tortola Wharf to Wendy's and the National Park Road near Red Hook. All are flat and nearly car free. STAR does have races and you might find a running buddy through them, too!
