Are young people able to make enough money to pay rent and live and still have some to put aside?

That depends mostly on the individual. If you are a good money handler, you should be able to bank about 20% of your income, assuming you make an average of $3,000/mo., or more. If you only make $2k/mo, you may need to get a roommate to supplement your rent, but you can still save. If you are going to be making less than $2k/mo, you may not want to live here. That's just my opinion, mind you. I'm sure there are people making only $1,500/month and are quite happy. I know that I couldn't do it, though.
