Employment On St. Croix

Hello all. Let me just say my husband and I just returned from St. Croix for his interview/ our pre move visit. I loved everything about the island and we are hoping to become a virginislander very soon! My husband will have a job that pays more than he is making now and both of us agree that I will find a job when I find a job. There's no big rush. I have searched all over the web and found that it's very hard to find jobs posted for St. Croix. How easy is it to find a job once you are there??? I assume being that the "high" season is approaching it should not be too big of a problem. My work experience varies greatly. I have gone to college for 3 years (almost have my BS) and between working for my parents' service oriented business all of my life, to working as a trail guide for a horse barn when I was 16-17, to working as a cocktail waitress/bartender in a Ceasar's resort, to taking my real esate exam in PA, to working as an office manager, to working as an executive company for two Senior Vice Presidents of a company I have plenty of working experience.

So I guess I am trying to ask...

a) How long would someone with my backround take to find a job?

b) What types of jobs would I be able to find that I would be eligible for?

Thank you.

Hopefully soon to be and Islander

Been here for over a month, and have applied to many jobs. No luck. However, I am subbing at a private school. I have a degree and lots of experience in the professional world. I have to tell you, you have your "work" cut out for you. It is all about timing and who you know. Best of luck to you (and I mean that sincerely). If you find a job here and find out there are hiring, let me know..lol....

good luck

Hello Stacy,

I noticed an opening on the Good Hope School website; "September 28, 2005, Middle School social studies teacher needed immediately."

Yes, Lindsey, there are salons in a variety of locations on the island and they need new stylists from time to time. I'm still looking for one I trust to cut my hair. And I'm getting to the age where I will have to start color treatments, so I REALLY need someone I trust. What's your experience?

Lindsey,
I believe you have to retake the licensing boards here (according to a friend of mine who lives here and is a beautician). She said you also are required to wear a white uniform for your demos! (I'm not kidding !! )

Following up on Travelwoman's comment on licensing for beauticians... you can find the details on the Dept. of Licensing website at http://www.dlca.gov.vi/bbmrequirements.htm.
