I am currently a graduate studentin the states. I will graduate December of 2004 with a master's in community counseling. I will be attending the university of VI to work on a second masters degree. My family ( my husband, two kids and my brother) will be accompanying me. Where can I find employment in the social service field my specialty is drug addiction counseling? Also where can I find a apartment or house to rent that can accomodate a family of five?

Diane: I hope you spend some time navigating around this site, as Islander has really worked hard to put information together on housing, schools, costs, etc. There are not a lot of 3 bedroom rentals, although there are some- think $3000/mo. You might do better getting a 2 bedroom for your family and a studio for your brother, assuming he is an adult...Also, are you arriving in December/January? That is high season, and finding a spot may be tough. Jobs in your field are probably going to be found through networking. There are drug and alcohol programs- both governmental and non-profit. Best wishes!

Diane,
You might try getting in touch with John Dowds at Shaky Acres - they do have a web site
www.shakyacres.vi. John's a great guy and knows this business on St. Thomas/St. John and St. Croix. Best of luck.
Pamela.
