employment
Hey, I'm moving to St Thomas in January in search of leisure and employment, anyone know any good resturants/ nightclubs hiring. Let me know.
Holli,
I have a job in STT, starting January. Am paranoid about housing costs. If you'd like to explore a no-strings roommate situation, please respond. I'm going to work as an editor at the daily paper, so am not a beach-flake.

I have the same concerns as Holly, kind of. I want to re-locate to the Virgin Islands. I have a young child and I am an attorney. Would like to know about the job prospects and the education system.
Holly, I would say start you search when you get here. You would most likely want a job close to the area you plan to live in. There are so many restaurants and bars. January is season, and restaurants are busy, you shouldn't have a problem finding openings. Bars that are hot spots/busy are Duffys (east end) and Greenhouse (town); and they usually have openings. There are others also. Restuarants are so numerous I don't know where to start. My suggestion would be to look up the web sites of some of the bars and restaurants on the island; and e-mail them. This way you have an idea of the job situation. Or when you get here spend a couple days visiting all the places that you would consider working at.
Ellie, there are a lot of attorneys in St. Thomas. Many law offices!! You would need to either open your own office and make a name for yourself. Or work for an established law office. Also depends on the type of law you practice. The public education system in St. Thomas is not the best. Some of the elementary schools are good, however the junior high and high schools need some help. There are several private and parochial schools that are good and costly.
Holli,
You"re in luck! Three of the high-end resorts are hiring staff (Wyndham Sugar Bay Beach Club, Renaissance Grand Beach Resort and Marriott Beach Resorts). "Islander" is right in that unlike the "states" these businesses like to see you apply in person. If you like the beach front/bar or the typical tourist type resturaunt there are so many that a little foot work will surely bring you success.Good luck!
