EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECKS
http://viconsortium.com/breaking-news/bill-mandating-background-checks-medical-boards-moves-forward/
I've never understood why so many employers (both in the public and private sector) fail to do even simple background and reference checks on prospective employees. It's been simple common business practice for decades to ascertain the accuracy of resumés yet ever since I've been here that's simply not been generally done.
One would think that particularly in our transient society it would be at the top of any employer's list but every year there are numerous cases of hindsight "woe is me" when educational qualifications and employment history are found to have been falsified and criminal records simply not checked. From unaccredited/discredited "professionals" in high places, convicted pedophiles teaching in the system, down to the restaurant employees stealing left, right and center - it's never ending and yet still these simple checks are ignored by so many. Laziness or ignorance? Mind-boggling whatever the reason and too bad that it's deemed necessary to go through all the rigamarole of passing a bill on a simple common sense issue.
they do extensive checks where i work
Do you think it has something to do with the hospital board finding out its new CEO's PhD comes from a diploma mill? I wonder if Chucky was one of his references. :@)
I believe that prompted the current bill, as noted in the article.
