emmett hansen for congress
i am extremely interested in what the other registered voters in the usvi are feeling about emmett hansen in the democratic primary for congress. i personally see him as a man with political experience, with very well intended aspirations for the territory, moral values, and most importantly of all a man who ,historically as a senator, may not be unwilling to take an unpopular political stance. these are ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINIONS, that is why i want to see how other people are feeling. again my personal opinion, but since 1/ we have been UNABLE TO DEVELOP A CONSTITUTION since the organic act and 2/ since i am a bit leery of the LEADERSHIP role the candidates for governor would take...i am wondering if the delegate to congress might be an extremely important position to lobby for some of the things this territory needs to get back on its feet...there is federal funding available for what ails us,but, most politicians fear the federal scrutiny that will have to take place before funds will be available, particularly in the areas of energy and education. opinions wanted and please" don't shoot the messenger!;)
Emmett Hansen has little chance of making it out of the primary, Donna will squash him. I have no idea where the support for Donna stems from, kinda like the Chucky Syndrome.
We have GOT to get someone in the delegate seat who has a plan, and a desire to work, and not just be chummy with the other congressmen.
Poodle, Donna is not running for delegate this year.
Donna has higher apirations this year than Delegate and is running for Governor.
I might have considered voting for her ............had she taken a firm stand on banning cock fights.
Donastorg, at least, was responsible for sponsoring the bill that got our Animal Cruelty Laws passed, finally and could only do so with the provision that it did not ban cockfighting or the other Senators would not vote on it. We were told, at that time, that the bill would be later amended to include a ban on cockfighting when we got a more enlightened group of Senators on board. Well, that's yet to happen!
Malloy is running for Delegate I beleive but offhand cannot remember who else.
Of course, you know he'll ultimately will be looking at the Governor position.
Stacy Plaskett is another running for delegate.
I have known Emmet for years. He is extremely bright.
I am leaning towards Plasket for Delegate and Donastorg for Gov.
I am leaning towards Plasket for Delegate and Donastorg for Gov.
i am in the information gathering mode, prior to even the primary, which i hope a lot of voters also are. i am curious alana about your choices since i am ,obviously leaning towards emmett hansen. has plasket had any political experience? also totally unsure about this, but did donastorg once face sexual harrasment charges?? don't know enough about him,so this is why i am asking? thanks for any input or info.
I am leaning towards Donastorg since he was the ONLY Senator that would:
A. Help put forth legislation for an Animal Cruelty Bill - flawed as it is due to having to remove cockfighting just to get it passed by other Senators. But at least there is some semblance of one which can be updated with amendments which were promised, at that time.
B. He was the Senator responsible for instituting the OIG Audit for the VI Legislature that led to the revelation of how all of our money has been misused, misspent, misappropriated, mismanaged and outright stolen by certain Senators.
C. He went after Jeffery Prosser like a pit bull having his family attacked which eventually led to an investigation and all of the charges Prosser ended up facing and are still winding their way thru the courts.
D. I believe he has integrity and will help fight the prevalent corruption now seemingly ingrained in our Government institutions.
The gossip was he had a "girlfriend" outside marriage. Not sexual harassment charges as I recall. Mind you, this was an election year at the time and all gloves were off and dirty politics at it's worst with lots of mudslinging.
As for Stacy Plasket, I am still researching her so as mentioned...........just leaning that way.
Not going for those already entrenched in the VI Gov. system with this one.
I met Stacey Plaskett at an event tonight. I was extremely impressed. I had checked out her website a few days ago (PlaskettforCongress.com) and really liked her platform and priority list, and my good feelings were doubled tonight. There are no 'polls' to track that I am aware of, but when she ran in the Dem primary 2 years ago for the 1st time she got 43% of the vote, so she's got to be considered a leading contender I would think. There is no Republican running for delegate this time (they dropped out) so the Aug 2 Dem primary is it.
I was kind of disappointed to hear that primaries in the VI are not open, as I like to be an independent, and don't like the idea of having to register as a certain party (Dem in the VI) to be able to actually vote, but I guess that's just the way it is.
Vince Danet dropped out?
